In late June we spend three nights in the Hotel Canal. It is right on the water, is very clean with lovely rooms and a small swimming pool. Everyone was very accommodating. Breakfast was delicious - with lots of choices - on the outside patio near the canal. It was a short work down to the walled city of Aigues Mortes.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this area. They were helpful at recommending three excellent restaurants and made the reservations for us. There are many wineries close by - our visit to Listel was terrific. The white ponies of the camargue are beautiful and brave - and a must to see at one of the nearby Manades.
Linda and Bob Henry, Los Angeles

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a patio on the canal.

This was a real treat to find close to the wonderful medieval city of Aigues Mortews and overlooking the canal. The rooms are very clean and tastefully presented; mine wwith a nice walk in shower. The bed was really comfortable and the aircon worked quietly so I had a great sleep. I didn't try the pool but it looked great. The continental breakfast was very good and again with good presentation and good choices. When we arrived we were given a great welcome and provided with maps and detailed directions with restaurant recommendations. On departure we were given options for our onward journey. Couldn't have been more helpful. It is a short easy walk to the medieval city along the canal. Really handy for everything. I would happily stay longer than this overnight stop.

Room Tip: I had a superior room on level 2 overlooking the canal. Opt for lower if you have baggage. If travel...

This hotel is located conveniently for the historic city of Aigues Mortes. It is on the banks of the canal and takes approximately 7 minutes to walk to the city. There is parking available and a railway station near by (I did not travel by train). The rooms are very clean and quiet, beds comfortable, air conditioning unobtrusive and ensuite bathroom clean and convenient. Breakfast is €12 and it is well worth it. The food is displayed to perfection, it is fresh and plentiful and can be enjoyed on the covered terrace. Reception is very helpful and welcoming and keen for you to enjoy your stay, offering good advice on where to eat and what to see.

Room Tip: We did have a superior canal view room and it probably worth spending the extra money.

What a great find! We came across this hotel based on reviews. We stayed three nights and used this as a base to travel around a bit. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the location really is great. Not only can you walk to the walled city, you have lots to explore in the area. The staff was so friendly and helpful and gave us great tips on where to go, and in English too! I have basic French but it was nice that my wife and daughter could also ask the staff questions and not have to rely on me to translate everything. We started each day with a great breakfast in the fresh air and a swim, and then went right back to the pool when we returned at the end of the day. This is what a great vacation is all about.

I went with my boyfriend for a 4 day stay. The hotel is wonderfully located and gave as a great chance to enjoy the lovely town of Aigues Mortes, both in the day time and at night. I am a light sleeper but I slept perfectly here which was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious and it was so nice to have it al fresco. Although we went mostly to the beach, the swimming pool was a nice treat too. The service was really good and if we needed any advice on what to do or where to go, there was plenty of friendly and helpful advice, whether it was places of interest, things going on in the town, restaurants etc. This region is lovely with plenty of things to do and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as a place from which to enjoy everything. Thank you!

We stayed twice at this hotel and have mixed feelings about it.

The hotel is well located at walking distance from the centre of Aigues Mortes. You can park easily. The hotel overlooks the canal. The breakfast is taken outside and is pleasant.

The rooms are basic and small (ibis standard). It is acceptable when you pay the basic rate for a standard room (our first stay in urban room) but overpriced for a superior room (our second stay in May 2013 in Suez room). We felt that 134 Euros with breakfast for a small room, with no charm was too much.

An important point as this hotel is located close to the beaches, we wanted to enjoy our last afternoon at the beach after checking out. We asked if we could shower when returning from the beach before taking our train to Paris. This is a standard facility in seaside resorts hotels. Unfortunately we found out it was a bit of a problem, the receptionist who is the owner explained they did not have a shower for guests and he was not sure that we could use one of the rooms even if the hotel was not fully booked that night. He suggested we use the garden hose instead! We were shocked, as you can imagine. I guess (and hope) he noticed how his suggestion was unacceptable, he then came up with another brilliant idea which was to call or pop in later when returning from the beach to see if a room was available and had not been cleaned yet (always great to shower in a dirty place) so we could use it, on top of that he added that he could not guarantee it! We felt that as soon as you have paid your bill you are not a customer any longer. Definitely not a 3 stars hotel service !!!
Not sure we will come back, next time we will try another hotel in the area...

Room Tip: not worth booking a superior room

Monsieur,

Cordialement

Jacques Galliot
collaborateur salarié de l’équipe Hotel Canal
