Les Remparts benefits from a terrific location just inside the main entrance to the walled city of Aigues-Mortes but the food and ambience make the need to venture further into the city unnecessary! We were given a table outside on a beautiful evening and had a wonderful view of the walls and the towers as well as the hustle and bustle of a busy summer's evening.
The meal was outstanding - and excellent value for the quality too at just over 30 Euros for the three course menu savour. All courses were prepared with the freshest of ingredients, beautifully presented and well cooked. After a delightful amuse bouche, I had a starter of prawn and artichoke lasagne which was superb - rich and full of flavour - while my wife had a dup of gazpacho, one tomato and the other cucumber - tasty and refreshing. My main was a wonderful dish of red mullet and lobster with preserved lemons while my wife had bream on a bed of saffron risotto - both were superb - delicious and memorable. Kids choices were good quality too - our son thoroughly enjoyed his fish and chips which was fresh and generous.
Desserts were just as good - creatively conceived and beautifully presented. My wife had an outstanding chocolate fondant while my local dessert of fruit, mousse and chantilly cream on puff pastry with sea salted caramel was delectable. We also enjoyed an excellent bottle of local rose, the perfect accompaniment to the food. Service was casual but attentive and we left feeling fully satisfied and glad that we had got our stay in Aigues-Mortes off to the perfect start with a meal here!
