“Terrible Service, Terrible Manners”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

There were several aspects of the hotel that really bugged me.
The bed had several hairs in it, which made me wonder whether the room has actually been cleaned or just tidied.
Breakfast wasn't very good, you can tell that the croissants were frozen. The other breakfast items were very low quality, i love a coffee in the morning, but what I recieved tasted like dirty dish water. The ham, cheese etc were dry as if they had been out over night.
Also i wouldn't describe a fan as air conditioning, which was very loud and not very useful in the heat.
The shower was terrible, more like a dribbling water output.
But possibly one of the things that annoyed me the most was when i was trying to practice my French and the receptionist rudely told me to speak English.
I wasn't satisfied with the service i recieved, nor the price i paid.

This is the e-mail I just sent them: Dear Sirs: we were three guests hosted at the Saint Louis on the 31 August night. When we went to check out at the reception on September 1st morning, the person at the reception handled us a hand-filled receipt (without a serial number). While my husband was looking for the space on it to sign for acceptance, the receptionist said to him in English "You don't want to pay?" instead of politely asking him for his credit card that, by the way, had already been requested by a different receptionist upon our arrival. We remained astonished, as none of us is either a French or English native speaker. When I replied that our card had already been checked upon arrival, and that we even offered to pay immediately upon arrival, the same individual replied in French that "that was for security purposes, IN CASE WE WOULD LEAVE OUR HOTEL ROOM DURING THE NIGHT".
Our astonishment at this point was total, due to the rudeness of her manners! First of all, if we had had that intention that she seemed to attribute us, we would not be standing at the hotel reception to set our bills! Moreover, we are respectable people who find inacceptable and deplorable to be considered in this fashion. Definitely, this person urgently needs educational training before being exposed to contact with foreign guests.
She almost managed to ruin our experience in Aigues Mortes, a city that we have been repeatedly visiting in the last 20 years and that we love.
No need to say that we will never be back at your hotel and that I am dedicating time to inform you only because, in doing so, I do hope to prevent this from happening to other foreign customers.
Best regards,

Booked as part of a cycling tour - but would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is well situated and easy to find -- right near the main square, close to restaurants and shopping.

Room was comfortable and clean. Large-ish bathroom (for a change from the other hotels on the tour).

Breakfast was typical: breads, cheeses, juice.

We recently stayed one night here and most certainly will do so again. We love Aigues-Mortes, thinking it is quite a treasure that we had not explored until last year. Now we have returned, with other family, and intend a repeat visit shortly. Aigues-Mortes is intriguing for those of us with different history and it was especially delightful this year to stay at the Hotel St-Louis. The rooms are not huge but they are clean, the beds comfortable, the showers good and we had a room from which we could gaze out down to the main square. During the day it was extremely busy, A-M seems to be a place where tourists arrive in big numbers for lunch. Come evening, it quietens down and one can really enjoy the place to a greater degree. Hotel St-Louis was perfect for that. Breakfast .... I would not take it again, we thought it very average for what we paid and whilst the outside courtyard where we ate was a delight, the food did not enthuse us.

If you have a car, make sure you reserve parking in advance as there are limited spaces.

Room Tip: We wanted to be on the street side, never being sure what rooms off the street might be looking over...

Our children are aged 10 and 12 and we are never sure how a stay will pan out. This hotel is situated right in the heart of the old walled town 1 minuite from the main square and ramparts - therefore it pushed all their buttons - easy handy shopping and restaurants and great for pretending you are a knight! Our room was light and airy with a seperate loo and bathroom. We overlooked the street but there seemed excellent soundproofing so we were not disturbed by street noise (except for what sounded like a bottle bank collection early one morning!) The terrace at the back was pretty . we had breakfast there one day but found it expensive for what it was. I would recommend Parking if you are arriving after a long journey - but be warned you have to drive through the very narrow streets (many one way or pedestrianised) and then the space is only 2 cars wide.

Aigues-Mortes was a welcome respite from the nearby ghastly beach resorts and the mayhem of Montpelier. Visiting in late April/early May it was the asparagus festival. A charming walled town steeped in history and a gateway to the Carmargue and its famous horses.

The hotel is comfortable enough with functional rooms and a nice courtyard for alfresco dining.

Hotel St. Louis is perfectly situated in the centre of the walled town of Aigues Mortes. The bedroom was very small, even by medieval standards. It's medieval feel was left behind once you start up the stairs, that is except for the bed linen which I'm sure were ancient. We didn't eat here so I cannot comment on food. Location is great, otherwise...nothing great.
