“Personalized Languedoc Tour with Anneke Koremans”
Reviewed November 11, 2010

We recently spent a day touring around the Languedoc region with our local guide Anneke. She offers private tour of the area at a very reasonable price. We have always been intrigued by the mysteries surrounding the Rennes-le-Chateau and the Cathars, but after failing to find some of the ‘hidden’ sites in our previous trips by ourselves, we decided to hire Anneke. Anneke is professional, passionate, and one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. She was willing to accommodate our needs of visiting a long list of sites where we were eager to see, and offered other significant sites that were worth visiting. Her in-depth knowledge of the history and culture was truly meaningful, it only made us determined to come back again in the near future. Everyone at Rennes-le-Chateau knows her, which shows her presence as a qualified guide as well as caring friend. If you ever have a chance to visit the Languedoc region, we highly recommend contacting Anneke for a great experience!

“We had a simply wonderful holiday”
Reviewed September 9, 2010

We had a simply wonderful holiday and wouldn't hesitate to go back. The area is beautiful, and this stunning Chateau made our holiday really superb.

You can just tell the place has been restored with full attention and love. The chateau Unique has a very homely feel. It is incredibly spacious, with 9 huge bedrooms that are each filled with charactor and warmth. The bathrooms are also gorgeous and the living room and kitchen certainly provide a great area for everyone to come together

Outside, the large terrace area with view of gorgeous pool and beautiful garden which has been cleverly designed with own Mediterranee style, so large lovely peaceful to bathe in the sun, swim and relax.

The views and the surroundings truly are out of this world - they must be seen to be believed! The quaint little village, the nearby fields, lakes, vinyards and animals made this a very special holiday for us.

There is also a wealth of amazing boat day trips and activities only a short distance away and these really do cater for all hobbies and tastes. The historical sights and caves close to the house are well worth a visit, and horse riding is a must!! And, if you have time to go for a drive and explore you never know what you'll find - the place seems to be full of little hidden gems!

As for restaurants, we did not have a single disappointing meal - the choice on offer is sure to satisfy anyone, so whether you decide to relax at the house with a BBQ or go out for a meal, you won't be disappointed.

We had a simply wonderful holiday and wouldn't hesitate to go back. The area is beautiful, and this stunning Chateau made our holiday really superb.

“Snapshots of Languedoc Roussillon, France”
Reviewed September 8, 2010

A great region to explore if you like nature (plenty of mountains, gorges, rivers, and shining Mediterranean Sea) and outdoor activities. Plenty of history too (chateaux and ruins galores), good food and wine of course, and the little towns are quaintness personified at half the price of the big cities, What is there not to love?

“Lovely Languedoc and it's hidden gems”
Reviewed June 30, 2010

Well my girlfiend and I just returned from 2 weeks in France. It was an absolutely wonderful experience so I thought I would share the last week of the trip. We spent 2 days in Paris (not long enough) and 5 days in Nice where we travelled around to neighbouring towns. But it was the last week which proved to be the most interesting.

We stayed in a beautiful apartment in a village called Lodeve, which is about 30-40 minutes from Montpellier. This is the email of the booking agents;
http://lhh-online.com

There is not a great deal to do in Lodeve but it has its charms. Eating wise I would recommend the very reasonable La Terre de Merre - 3course set menu full of fresh local produce for €19 pp.

As far as sights there will be nothing in say the Lonely Planet guide but my girlfiend and I had lots to do in the week we were there. So here are the villages/sights we visitied;
- Cirque du Navacelles - lovely village that is set way below in a valley...scary drive down but definitely worth a look!
- Grotte des Demoiselles: Tour of this ancient cave is very nice, make sure to try and get an English tour (Price is @ €9)
- St Guilhem-le-Desert: After you leave Grotte des Demoiselles the town you enter is St Guilhem. It is an absolutely beautiful village with a river running through it. Worth a potter around the shops/local produce on sale.
- Aigues-Morte: This is an ancient Crusader town which is great to walk around and explore...there is a tour around the village and a lovely little Moulin (windmill) a short walk up a hill with excellent views of the village
- Lac de Salagou: Spent an afternoon at the lake relaxing, going for little swims, very pleasant. It is such a quiet and tranquil place you'll forget all your worries.
- Viaduct near Millau: We drove up here to take a few photos of the viaduct, its only a viaduct and worth a photo but be careful not to carry on driving cause you get hit with a toll, that mistake cost us nearly €7!

Anyway these are some of the cool little trips you can make. Below is a website where you can find all things Laguedoc!
http://www.creme-de-languedoc.com/

We spent a day at one of the beaches just outside Montpellier which was lovely, avoid the bigger ones where it is very crowded and you'll have a lovely relaxing day. I dont know if it was just the time we were there but it was very windy so sand was going everywhere, EVERYWHERE! Water is a little chilly but definitely cool you down in the hot sun.

All I can say is that our week in Languedoc was really wonderful and relaxing and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see more of France than big cities etc. I hope this was helpful and see the above website (creme-de-languedoc) for loads more ideas, reviews etc. Au revoir!
