Marie Antoinette's castle was fascinating. You must visit the hamlet - the quaint village she built for she and her frinds to dress like peasants and play. Take the Petite Train, even though it is an extra 7euros.

Having seen The Palace I can understand why the royal family escaped here. Lovely rooms which are less busy than the palace but equally charming. The gardens are also beautiful though obviously less extensive and more kitchen garden style. Worth the walk to get there.

Spend a majority of your time exploring here versus fighting the crowds at the Chateau. Equally as nice on the inside but much more pleasurable to view. Take your time and definitely see the Hamlet, it's like a snapshot of life in the 1700's.

As "getaways" for the royals, it's well worth visiting to get a glimpse of more scaled down opulence looked like.
