I visited the Palace with my husband and toddler and it was amazing! The amount of gold used in the place is ridiculous! I found it so interesting to learn about the historical significance behind this building. I'd recommend watching the movie "Marie-Antoinette" starring Kirsten Dunst to give an even clearer picture of the historical events surrounding this amazing Palace & grounds.
The one thing I would advise specifically to parents is that you aren't allowed to take your stroller/pram into any of the buildings (you must leave them behind at the security gate), so definitely take a baby carrier for babies!
It's a little unfortunate that they won't allow strollers inside, as its a LONG way for little legs to walk and my poor daughter got VERY tired. Make sure you receive a security tag (number) from the attendants as there was much confusion (in addition to having an exhausted child) when I wasn't given a number and needed to collect my stroller back.
Aside from the horrendous treatment I got from the security team, it was a lovely day and definitely worthwhile seeing.
