I loved the gardens near Trianon the most. The manicured lawns and elaborately decorated chateau are beautiful, but the area around the Trianon feels the most 'real'. Gorgeous overgrown fields with sunflowers and wildflowers laced with little paths and more understated (but still pretty damn grand) chateaus.
We arrived quite early in the morning and saw the palace first, buying tickets on arrival. When we got out the line was triple the size, so it was a good choice. Even if you're there in summer, I suggest taking a light cardigan. It rained while we were there, and then an hour or two later became boiling hot. Luckily we all had some layers.
It would be nice to have a beautiful picnic in the gardens. Ah well, next time!More
