The La Flottille restaurant at Versailles was a very pleasant surprise for us. Quite frankly, we didn’t expect much from a restaurant located on the grounds of Versailles when we decided to have a leisurely lunch in the middle of our day-long side trip from Paris. That was especially true because it was a gorgeous Saturday and, consequently, the servers were very busy with the large number of visitors, many with young children, who wanted to have lunch outside. However, we were quickly seated and, regardless of being responsible for far too many tables, our server was very friendly and attentive to our needs.
The five of us ordered appetizers, salads, and carafes of house wine. Of course, delicious French bread was complimentary. All of our dishes were very good. I ordered a salad with duck and was very pleased with that selection. It came with a generous slice of foie gras on top, which I am normally not fond of. However, it was very creamy and quite good. My wife loves foie gras and said it was some of the best she has tasted. And, of course, the wines were excellent.
Overall, our experience was great and we would certainly dine at La Flottile again whenever we return to Versailles.
