When in Paris, it really does make good sense to try their local cooking & the French certainly know their foie gras & duck dishes! Well, Au Petit Sud Ouest is a perfect choice then because first & foremost, they do anything duck soo well, the owners ( Chantal in particular ) & staff are very friendly & speak English and their prices are quite reasonable as well. Obviously this is the perfect recipe to have Tripadvisor readers keeping this place packed! As in an earlier review,
the place is filled with mostly tourists rather than locals ( proving the power of TA! ) but in my opinion, it only slightly takes away from the whole experience.
My husband had the grilled duck breast which we all agreed was the most delicious entree out of the three kinds we ordered. It was very tasty & grilled to perfection much like a great steak. I had the cassoulet which was quite heavy on the stomach due to the beans so sharing an order would have been a better choice. The duck confit was tasty and the starter salads served with foie gras would be a good introduction to it.

If you are a fois gras fan (and I am), then visit this place. It all starts with the owners, who are warm and attentive. Many restaurants give you the feel that their needs and profits come first. Not so with Au Petit Sud Ouest. For example, Chantal (I believe one of the owners) actually advised us against getting an extra course because she thought it would be too much food. She was right! Also, her wine recommendation was spot on. It was one of the best right bank wines I have ever had (and not the most expensive). In the end though, the food has to shine. And on that front Au Petit Sud Ouest does not disappoint. The fried fois gras was perfect, and the eggs with truffles were sumptuous. A fabulous experience!

Fabulous restaurant that offers duck cooked every way possible. I loved the owners and the interior was fun and quaint. We didn't make reservations, but the owner squeezed us in, but be sure to call ahead. My husband enjoys confit and foie gras but I had a hard time finding something else on the menu. But, regardless, it was a fun experience!

I'd have to agree with the masses that this restaurant is worth a visit, (providing you're into duck as that accounts for 90% of the menu) It's quirky and the food quality is good, our waiter was very atentative & friendly
Now the downside, the space allocated to each table is tight putting it mildly, glasses were being knocked over throughout the night probably not helped by the fact that each table houses a toaster - nice but so much better if they'd allocate some room to accomodate it - the owner comes across a grumpy french man with no charisma.
In all honestly our food was lovely but due the the observations above, we wouldn't rush back
