Description: Les Pipos is a journey back to real Parisian bistro culture. With a clientele composed of regulars, tourists, students from the Sorbonne and administrative workers from the French ministries across the street, there is always a convivial environment and interesting conversations going on at all times of the day. You can have a traditional french meal inspired from Auvergene, Normandy and the South of France at any time until 11pm on weekdays and 11h30pm on weekends. Les Pipos has a diverse and particular wine list for all tastes. We work with wine producers who are invested in exposing the simplicity and exquisite nature of french wines, many of which are organic (no sulfur). The owner prides himself in serving fresh produce, so makes all his purchases in Rungis (the largest fresh produce market near Paris) and has nothing delivered. All cuts of meat, fish and vegetables are hand-picked by the owner himself. There is live music every Friday and Saturday. It is best to reserve on the weekends to guarantee a table. Payments can be made by cash or credit cards (visa, mastercard, debit) but we do not accept American Express however.

“French Fries and French Toast were "fantastique"!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

My husband, our three adult kids and I went to Les Pipos since it was just a few blocks from the apartment we are staying in for a few days and since it got pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor. I would definitely recommend it, with a few caveats. The chicken was overcooked and a bit on the dry side, the sauce was excellent and the mashed potatoes were decadently delicious. My daughter and I had the chicken. I was served a portion of the breast (very dry) and a portion of the thigh and my daughter was served a drumstick and thigh... so if you do order the chicken and you have a preference for white meat or dark meat, I would suggest you ask specifically for one or the other.

One of my sons had the salmon "unilateral" and the waitress (who was from NY) nicely explained that this meant it was cooked only on one side and they would be happy to fully cook it on both sides. He thought he'd be adventurous but regretted ordering it only partially cooked. He didn't complain but when the waitress saw he ate only a small portion, she offered to have it tossed back on the grill for him. He nicely declined as he and the family were in heaven eating the amazing French fries, which are offered with free refills! The 5 of us shared 2 bowls of perfectly crips and fresh fries. My husband and other son had the steak, which they enjoyed.

The meals were nothing exceptional but the French fries.. and the French Toast desert made with real French bread and every so buttery and sugary was amazing as was the homemade whipped cream it was served with .

Would love to go back just for the fries, French toast and wine.

“Classic Wine Bar With a Classic Menu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

Must have a taste for wine, love red and eat on the sidewalk.
Les pipos is a lodged between the ecole polytechnique and the most hidden artsy area of the 5th arrondissement.
The ideal meal is simple. Start the evening with a glass of Cotes du Rhones, an 'assiette charcutiere', continue with their 'pave de charolais' - to die for - if you like red meat, and finish with some cantal or reblochon cheese with another glass of wine. Dont get a bottle; try different varieties.
The best part of Les Pipos is when you find it by accident, like I did and start your night in the right parisian mode. Continue to explore the area going up the street (rue de la Montagne St Genevieve) until you arrive Place de la Contrescarpes. It's worth it.

“Classic small French restaurant and just right”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

This restaurant has been going for a long time. They had live music when we there. There were four of us and we all had excellent and filling meals (chicken, steak, fish) and then a nice cheese course. Definitely worth it.

“Wonderful wine bar with good food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

There are fewer finer things to do while in Paris than to sit at one of the outside tables here with a plate of their excellent homemade foie gras and glass of wine watching Paris walk by. This is one of those charka points of the city where the romance of the past brushes up against today. Hemingway hung around the neighborhood and Woody Allen filmed many scenes from Midnight in Paris just around the corner. It was also his hangout during filming. Sitting here doing nothing is always a must when I hit town. The wine list changes everyday and the cooking is good. Service is friendly and there are a group of amusing French regulars who gather every day. Although only a 15 minute walk from Notre Dame it seems light years away from the touristy throngs... real Paris!

“French Neighbourhood at its best”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

I had reviewed this before we left home and it turned out to be 1 minute from our apartment.
Very popular but they always fitted us in. Tiny tables but you certainly get to meet other people which is fun. Apparently the name means people who like talking and they certainly do and there was a real buzz. Good menu and all delicious. My husband fell in love with the Pate de Foie Gras and their daily specials are worth having. If you're on the left bank give it a try.
