We wouldn't normally have chosen a restaurant so close to where we were staying (La Paix, Republique), but having read the review on TA, thought we would give it a try.

Considering it was a Friday night, we got a table without any trouble. Very atmospheric (candles, I know the norm in small Paisian brasseries.....), and food excellent.

Don't discount this restaurant just because it's so close!!

This restaurant is expensive and the quality of the food is not good. The waiters and waitress are not really friendly. I think they do not know how to smile and be nice with their clients !!
But, the decoration is nice, and the restaurant is very well located. Near of the subway and the Place de la République.

We visited on a busy night with many local theatres spewing patrons onto the streets of St Denis. It seems reservations were necessary and we were lucky to have made some - remarkable, when you consider the booking was for 22h30.
We were seated quickly by our attentive waiter and were allowed time to view both the food and drink menus prior to our order being taken.
Whilst the menu may have been lacking in a wider variety of choice available in larger restaurants, there was a good choice on offer for most tastes, although any tourists with specific preferences may not be catered for.
As is the case in Paris, cost is everything and this restaurant was no exception. It was surprising initially on my first night at the cost of everything (basically, add a third to what you might otherwise pay in the UK), but bowing to the inevitable I admitted defeat to unleashing the cobwebs from the wallet.
Our choice of wine, deliberately chosen to match our food, was excellent quality and was spot on for the money. A little more disappointing was my main course, which whilst a generous helping, was sadly more fatty than meaty (I order lamb cutlets, which incidentally were accompanied by a mouth-watering jus).
And as my review title suggests, this is a cosy restaurant in many ways. It had great ambience and an intimate feel. But perhaps tables were a little too close for comfort to the other diners (which may explain why some diners' drinks were knocked to the floor by heavy coats brushing past), and perhaps the dimmer switch might be raised to shed a little more light to see what's on the plates! Two small criticisms of an otherwise good little restaurant.
