If in the mood for an honest, simple meal --nothing fancy -- and you're near Vendôme, this is as good a place as any. Good meat, a few decent wines, friendly staff, cozy space. It's Paris: If you don't appreciate this restaurant for what it is, you might as well book a table at Buddha Bar and go full-board philistine.

We had sea bass, pork loin, and steak/frites. All very nice and the soup duBarry just hit the spot on a old nite. The place was packed. We had no reservation, but they fit us in down in the cave. Not the most lively atmosphere there, but warm! Glad we found this busy neighborhood place.

We've had breakfast and dinner at this agreeable restaurant, just across the street from our rented apartment. Excellent value, friendly service, good food. You can't go wrong.

We were referred by our tour guide which in hindsight must have been related to the owner as this could be the worst food we have ever tasted. For 120e we had watery soup, burnt steak and cold chips. The best part of the meal was the bread and wine which were no doubt from another place.Very poor cafe and would not recommend this to anyone!

My friend Eddie, who is the Executive Chef at the Hotel Intercontinental, recommended this bistro to me. A friend of his bought it a couple of years ago and has been doing the hard work ever since......going to Rungis every morning for his product and manning the small open kitchen at the entrance to the restaurant.

The service was very friendly and professional. Alba, my server, was very sweet and chatty. She had just arrived from Spain and spoke French and English like a native (her mother is Irish). That plus the efficient pace of the service made me think my American friends would very much appreciate the experience.

My food was expertly done if a little under-seasoned. I went very traditional. Escargot-stuffed mushrooms and the ribeye (entrecote) with fries. The steak came with bernaise and a hearty, flavorful bread de campagne was served on the side. Two glasses of red wine, escargots, steak frites and un cafe with the check came to 40 euros. Not cheap but I didn't feel taken advantage of in the least.....

If you are looking or a great overall french bistro experience.....I say "go!"
