Description: When you step into this timeless venue, you will discover a festive restaurant straight out of a storybook and the imaginary world of Asterix. The success of the well-known concept is based on a simple, but effective idea: long rows of tables, mixed salads, grills and wine served from the barrel, all in gigantic quantities. Also worth mentioning is the outstanding welcome which contributes to the friendly atmosphere. Dinner menu : 40€ Lunch menu : 14€

“Quite ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

We went to Nos Ancetres les Gaulois on a Saturday night, the huge place was packed to the last seat. I quite liked the set up and the atmosphere of the restaurant, it did not feel as big as it actually is. The first course with the veg was pleasant. The buffet was a little low on choice and the main course, choice of 4 kinds of meat, was a huge let down. My entrecote was tough, the boar sausages overcooked, there was no seasoning. The wine was of mediocre quality. Considering the EUR 40 per person, value was actually quite ok. Word of advice, do not go there if you are vegetarian or don't eat pork.

“Yet another visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

I've been here over half a dozen times now in the last few years and the result is always the same - a fantastic evening!
I've read some reviews complaining that it's a tourist trap (plenty of local custom would dispute this point), while other reviewers seem to have the misconception that Nos Ancetres should be serving high class Michelin starred food. That's not what this restaurant is about. The food is fine for what you pay for (€40 per head). As much fresh veg, salamis, etc. as you can eat before tucking into a basic meat and sides main course. A fantastic selection of cheeses before rounding off with something sweet from a small selection of desserts. Couple this with unlimited red wine and you're already onto a winner.
But the main attraction is the atmosphere. It's busy, it's noisy and it's great fun. You'll more than likely end up sharing a table with several other people. On this occasion my brother and I were joined by 6 fatastically friendly Parisiens. By the end of the night it seemed as if we'd known each other for years. Banter isn't just limited to your immediate table either. The whole place has a massive energy that you can't help being sucked in by and thus adding to. The waiters are friendly, helpful and funny. The wandering musicians stir the crowds up even further (and aren't afraid to challenge you to a drinking competition or two!).
I'm possibly making it sound a little too raucous, which isn't the case. It's just a wonderful and fun evening, good basic food and drink, and even the most introverted of diners could not possibly help but flutter their social wings!
A great place and thoroughly recommended. If you plan on going on a Friday or Saturday night I'd email them via their website to book a table. On this occasion we were there on a 6 Nations Rugby weekend and the place was packed.
Long may it remain the same. At least until I stop visiting anyway!

“OK atmosphere. That's it.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014 via mobile

I dont like to write negative reviews, but a warning is needed. Total tourist-trap, with bad food. Starters including sausage, pasta, couscous etc was tasteless. Main-dish we had to send back. The wine had a strange taste. Cheese was ok, though. Do youself a favour; choose a different place to spend your evening.

“Something different in Paris!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

Wow now this restaurant is different. My son, daughter in law and I spent the evening in Nos Ancetres les Gaulois (Our Ancestors the Gauls). The night was filled with great food, wine and fun. The headwaiter was informative helpful and has a great sense of humor. He spent lots of time with us while still tending to the other diners. The meal starts with all the cheese, bread and sausage you care to eat. That is followed by an enormous basket of fresh fruit. Then you have a choice of meats and potatoes. A wonderful desert finishes this feast. All this on top of all the wine you want. This all cost just 40E each. We had an interesting visit with a French couple seated next to us. A very enjoyable evening, give them a try!
