Description: When you step into this timeless venue, you will discover a festive restaurant straight out of a storybook and the imaginary world of Asterix. The success of the well-known concept is based on a simple, but effective idea: long rows of tables, mixed salads, grills and wine served from the barrel, all in gigantic quantities. Also worth mentioning is the outstanding welcome which contributes to the friendly atmosphere. Dinner menu : 40€ Lunch menu : 14€

This is a warm, cozy restaurant that feels like a french version of a theme restaurant. After being seated, you are given a huge basket of crudite--unpeeled, un-cut veggies served with dressing. Then you are directed with your jug to the "all the wine you can drink" spigot (red or white) which you can fill to your heart's content and a small salad bar with things like cornichons and weird pasta salads, but couscous was a hit with my kids. There is also an all you can eat sausage/salami bar that you serve yourself. We found that the three dinner choices were not very good--steak, chicken (a very greasy chicken thigh and leg on the bone) or lamb chop or kabob. These are served with a baked potato and string beans. Dessert was just okay--there were 4 choices including mousse, lemon ice and flan. The service was a little flaky and took forever to get our main entrees. The host is very friendly and the singer/guitarist that serenades during the meal is fun but I would skip this restaurant entirely. Very pricey at 40 euros each. So many other great restaurants in Paris to try!!

If you have a meal at Nos anceters les Gaulois, you will not forget it. The staff is friendly, the vegetables ar fresh, the grilled meat is lovely and you leave the restaurant with the feeling that it was well worth the money.

Don't be fooled by the 'cozy'/ 'medieval' etc etc look. This place is bad. Staff rude, uninterested, did not say hello, did not offer bread or water (had to ask), looked annoyed. Food bad, overpriced, small portions, bland, cheaply made. I did not even finish my dish as it seemed to have been made entirely from re-frozen ingredients with nothing (no flavour, no sauce, nothing added. Wine - 8 euro a glass for a wine served below the line on the glass that we did not get to see the bottle of - waitress poured it behind the counter without showing the bottle. It tasted cheap and could have been anything. These people don't care, they know they will get hungry tourists coming in from the main street falling for the 'atmosphere' (if you like cave like places that is) that they will never see again. Shocking. You have been warned.

If you want to go there for the ambiance, then go, but do not expect too much. The 40-euro all-you-can-eat-and-drink menu could give you more options for the main course, which does not include wild boar meat.

Had dinner on a Friday evening. Restaurant was packed with locals & tourists. For 40 euros per head, I would say that it's expensive for food that was average. However, the atmosphere was great with music and even discussions with neighbouring tables.
