Description: When you step into this timeless venue, you will discover a festive restaurant straight out of a storybook and the imaginary world of Asterix. The success of the well-known concept is based on a simple, but effective idea: long rows of tables, mixed salads, grills and wine served from the barrel, all in gigantic quantities. Also worth mentioning is the outstanding welcome which contributes to the friendly atmosphere. Dinner menu : 40€ Lunch menu : 14€

“Magnifique!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

I first visited this wonderful restaurant in 1990, and again a number of times over the next 8 years, and it was always the same - GREAT! After an absence of 15 years, I brought my wife back. David and his team went out of their way to welcome an "old" patron back, and we had a wonderful time, so much so that we went back 2 days later. The food and wine are plain and rustic, the atmosphere and ambience fabulous, as was the lone minstrel. I would not hesitate to go back, again and again!

“vive les Gaulois!”

Great restaurant with entertainment thrown in. Food is rustic but filling and tasty. The Frenchness is memorable and the prices certainly are as this was the best value for money we had in Paris. Would definitely return. Magnifique!

“Don't miss this charming, fun place in a building that must be 12th century”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2013 via mobile

I won't describe the wonderful quality and quantity of freshly picked, prepared, and grilled dishes here. Everyone else has already done a great job. But that huge farmers' market basket of veggies was something else. My husband enjoyed carving up his own whole cucumber, tomato and red cabbage right out of the basket. I loved those tiny, crispy radishes! The rest of the meal, (grilled beef, or lamb chops, for example) including fresh baguettes and chocolate mousse washed down with a decent jug of Bordeaux, was wonderful. Loved the strolling guitar player who slipped in a couple of "French" tunes by Neil Diamond and others to which I sang along in English! Atmosphere is warm, cozy with old stone and candles. This place is right on the Isle St Louis, so be sure to include it on your itinerary. You will go home feeling truly "Gaulois! "

“I died and went to heaven”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

My kinda place, lots of food, well presented and a great atmosphere. This place isn't for the fainthearted, or if you've had a good breakfast!

Not too much from the outside but you come into a stonewalled area, skins and spears on the walls, start off by filling the jug with Bordeaux - ok choice of one - but a reliable wine. Hige basket of veg is put on your table and off you go to cut chunks of charcuterie types of meats and pates. To be honest you need to pace yourself - kick back and relax.

The main is a choice of chops or skewers of the main types of meat, followed by an ordinary - but varied cheeseboard.

It was lucky there was sorbet on the menu for pudding or i would have burst - i will definitely be coming back here!!!

“Fun and food.....lots of food!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013 via mobile

An unusual place, and not 'fine dining' by any stretch of the imagination. Dont go here if you are a vegetarian, and definitely do go if you are hungry!! I was with a party of 15 and we had a great time. The place was packed, and so the service got a bit sluggish towards the end of the evening, but nice red wine 'ad lib' helped a lot. I will not attempt further explanation...just go!
