We walked by La Tour L multiple times a day every day for several weeks baffled that it was nearly always empty notwithstanding the stellar reviews here on TripAdvisor (27 of 29 reviewers say "very good" or "excellent."). Indeed, several other recent reviewers have noted that it was empty or nearly so on their visits. Why would such a good restaurant be so consistently empty? We decided to try it to find out. Oops.
Our so-so starters were followed by a mediocre veal marengo main that was bland and made with what seemed to us a not very high quality meat. Another main dish, Brochette de St Jacques, used four of the smaller scallops we've seen in a restaurant along with a fairly flavorless if too heavy white sauce. The profiteroles to finish were at least a bit better.
Other reviewers have clearly had better luck, and we certainly appreciate the possibility that La Tour L simply had an off night, but wow, THAT's an off night. For our part we're inclined to conclude that the empty tables had it right.
