“Very poor food and quality to price ratio”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Chose simple food with hot mezze and lamb tagine. Result was really bad, with very oily/sickening mezze, and poor tagine, burnt at the bottom, hardly any meat, only bone, and unforgivable at these prices. Acceptable for a mc Donald's price but not for such a restaurant. Only the wine was ok, but expensive. Decoration is original but nothing to get overly excited about and certianly not worth the price paid in the end.
I'll bever go there again. Actually, you only see tourists there, which is an indication all by itself of food quality. I'll try Le derriere next time, which is just 2m away and has the same owners.
I'm French and a parisian, and I'm going to stay away from thsi one until there is a management change

“Good for vegetarians in the carnivore Paris”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We went to Le 404 in the hope to have a good choice of vegetarian meals. In fact it was easy to find something pleasant.
We ordered the Maroccan salad and another salad which name I don't remember as a starter. Then we had the vegetable couscous and vegetable tangerine. The tangerine was ok, but nothing special. The way the couscous was served surprised me. It was more like a vegetable soup in which you put as much couscous as you like. Ok, tasted good. As a wine we chose a Maroccan which was alright with the food. No desert (we are just not used to eating so much).
The service was good, excused himself more than once for his bad English (which was not bad at all) and was actually very attentive.
Weird was the placement at a long table next to other guests. We had known about this before we made the reservation, but it was very strange being seating next our fellow countrymen (two Germans). That somehow ended our and their conversation. When they left and a French couple took place, we felt a little relieved. The placement is fine as long as you don't feel observed.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, but it was a bit too loud for a romantic dinner. Otherwise fine.

“Great food and fun atmosphere”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We were looking for something different for dinner during our family holiday in France. Le 404 restaurant was the perfect break from traditional French cuisine.

Despite some of the recent reviews, we went to Le 404 because of its most great reviews and proximity to our hotel in the Les Halles area. We are very glad we went.

Our meals were excellent, the service fast, efficient, friendly and helpful, the ambiance alluring, and we were the only English speakers in what was a very full house.

Three of us had tagines (duck, lamb, monkfish) and one had lamb couscous. To start, we shared two orders of the mixed briouat (hot mezze on the menu). The food was outstanding. The meats were delicious and cooked to perfection. The sauce for the couscous dish was excellent and had amazing flavors. The briouat to start were simply wonderful...little pillows of heaven.

Our only complaint with the meal was the lack of explanation as to how the monkfish tagine was prepared. Our fault for not asking, but we did not expect it to be served with roasted vegetables and potatoes. The monkfish itself was prepared perfectly, but we did not think it was a good match for the vegetables paried with it. That is the only thing that keeps us from giving Le 404 5 stars. However, we would return again for the rest of the dishes we enjoyed.

Overall, a wonderful restaurant and a wonderful experience.

“Thank for nothing”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

Made a res. two days in advance, arrived an hour early and still received the WORST seat in the house. We were stuck in a communal table between two couples "thanks 404".
I used to love this place but will never return!

“Amazing couscous and harira soup!”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

My 11 year old son and I had lunch on New Year's eve. Now, he grew up with Algerian couscous since the age of 2! He loved the soup and the mechoui/merguez couscous! We don't get Algerian coucous in Toronto, so we were in heaven when we were in Paris!
