Description: "Au Petit Tonneau" Every day, French cuisine lovers rush to this lovely and welcoming spot located in the heart of Paris' 7th arrondissement, in the famous Surcouf Street. They come here, only a few steps away from the Invalides and the Eiffel Tower, to enjoy authentic, generous and traditional meals. Au Petit Tonneau is an authentic Parisian bistro that has existed over thirty years ago, offering a friendly atmosphere, accentuated by vichy tablecloths and ancient tiles embellished with fleur-de-lis, where one word prevails: "enjoy" ! It is also in this restaurant where Comissaire Maigret, under the pen name of Georges Simenon, habitually took a few puffs from his pipe as he was seated at his "table of the commisaire" to relish in his favorite dish: a veal stew, which to this day is still highly anticipated by customers. "menu" The cuisine of Au Petit Tonneau revisits the traditional and savory entrees that build onto the international reputation of the French gastronomy. Gourmet meals altering with the changing seasons can also boast to a great pricing for its quality, such as the veal with gravy accompanied by a simmering gratin dauphinois (cooked in cream), barely out of the oven.

On the recommenation of the concierge from our hotel we booked this restaurant. This was the best meal we had while in Paris. The owner of the restaurant greeted us as soon as we walked in and she made us feel welcome and like family. She went over the menu with us and made sure we understood everything that was on it. The gentleman in charge of the wine was also excellent and made several suggestions for us and we were able to make a great wine selection. This is a small restuarant with red and white checkered table cloths, not many tables and just a cozy feeling. Our meal was so good we insisted that the chef come out so we could thank her personally for preparing such a great meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It was excellent.

After several weeks in France, we found Au Petit Tonneau, probably the best all round dining experience of our trip. The relatively new owner, Arlette, seeks to create a simple, traditional restaurant with food, wine, service and atmosphere to suit. She has succeeded. The food is simple and seasonal, it is excellent and well priced. The service is as good as you can get, friendly, helpful and always one step ahead in meeting expectations. The atmosphere is comfortable and non-threatening like so many of the more expensive French restaurants. Au Petit Tonneau is frequented by local businessmen and residents, and they seem to know the place well.

I'm so glad we dined at Au Petit Tonneau. Over the years, I have had some truly memorable meals there, but it had been over 5 years since I had the chance to get back there . . and wow!! . . .am I glad we did!! The food is simple, but truly classic French and very, very delicious!! Although I was very sad to hear that Ginette Boyer (the original owner) has passed away, it is clear that her spirit lives on at Au Petit Tonneau . . . and I have to believe that Ginette is looking down with a smile at what a fine job Arlette is doing to keep Ginette's tradition alive. Arlette is a truly delightful hostess and Nicolas our server was fabulous as well. We will most certainly be coming back . . .hopefully sometime soon . . and I will most certainly making sure my friends know that the spirit of Ginette Boyer lives on at Au Petit Tonneau!

We went twice because it was sooooo good the first time. The scalloped potatoes are to-die-for and everything else was amazing as well. Chocolate mousse, steak, pork chop - all mouth-watering!

My husband used to come here when in Paris on business, but had not been for about three years. So on our return trip this month, we found the restaurant had changed hands, but was still just as good. Not the cheapest, but our freshly prepared sea bass had clearly come sizzling from pan to table and was delicious. Followed by a very tasty lemon meringue tart, one of the nicer meals we ate on this trip. Worth seeking this restaurant out.
