Wow. We wanted a special dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed. Lots of little surprises, nice touches and absolutely divine food.

“Just perfect!”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

After reading the reviews on here, I was fairly confident that this was going to be a safe bet. We booked for a special birthday dinner that we were celebrating and although I had mentioned this to the staff almost 8 months in advance, they hadn't forgotten! It is a beautiful, plush setting - and the food and the service do the setting full justice. Attentive waiters, generous chefs, a gem of a setting combined to make our evening here memorable in the best of ways. We chose the 5 course 'tasting' menu with 3 wines - but by the time we'd finished, it had turned into a 7 course meal with 5 wines! The sommelier recommended some really delicious wines, and then poured us a glass of dessert wine with his compliments. Perhaps it's all just carefully costed to make you feel like they're being generous - who cares: it feels wonderfully decadent and special and if you enjoy good food and wine, then I fail to see how you wouldn't fall in love with this place. Oh and for the 'birthday boy' a discrete candle on his dessert plate with 'Joyeux Anniversaire' inscribed in the finest chocolate tracery - c'est bien fait, non? Go - enjoy - count the cost MUCH later!!! (And please dress up! We were amazed to see men in jeans and t-shirts! Come on guys, get with it - make the evening special: it's the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to a new suit, or women, a new dress. Just can't understand why some people would dress-down for a wonderful experience like this!!)

“Very pretty, elegant and intimate”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Paris – Dinner at Le Restaurant at L’Hotel, on Rue des Beaux Arts, between Rue de Seine and Rue Bonaparte. L’Hotel is a plush and apparently quite hip hotel, known as the last home of Oscar Wilde, and the “swinging” place to be in the 60’s. Its one star restaurant is very pretty, elegant and intimate. The service is semi-formal, that hard to define oh so French combination of serious and attentive, yet friendly. We started with cocktails brought from the lobby bar that were so well-made, we knew the evening could turn out to be quite special. And, it did. Call me crazy, but with the possible exception of Japan, where but in a fine French restaurant do you see such truly beautifully presented dishes? The procession we enjoyed was one magazine cover photo after another. Two amuse bouche dishes, one consisting of four different, perfect bites of seafood perfection, and, another, the best soft cooked egg ever, with caviar; then our starters, her Boletus mushrooms and my Normandy scallops, followed by her frog legs and my pheasant hen, then the cheese course – our first “pavé de Betz le chateau,” followed by, what else, a pre-dessert, and then a series of dessert plates that were so pretty we took entirely too many photos. This was my wife’s birthday dinner, and Le Restaurant made me look like a really good husband! We would definitely return.

“Mixed opinion”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

My review of Le Restaurant is tempered by the fact that I was not feeling particularly well the evening we dined there. However, the meal began with a misunderstanding with the dining room manager about our not having confirmed our reservation. Since this occurred after we had been served and he belabored the point to our embarrassment, I found it in exceedingly bad taste. The gentleman should have stated his case and moved on. Service was only fair: we had to ask and signal repeatedly to have our wine glasses topped and failed to attract a server on other occasions. The decor is a little tired. The food? My opinion as an experienced diner and cook is that it is very good but far from what one expects of a restaurant ranked by diners #1 in Paris. In short: we did not swoon.....
