To be honest, only come here to eat if you want to have the experience of drinking wine out of a baby bottle... Their food is very mediocre and the restaurant is VERY compacted. (Not recommended for elderly people). If you don't want to wait in line you should go earlier to eat, like around 6pm, since French eat late.
I recommend the oil fondue over the cheese fondue because the cheese in the cheese fondue is liquidated. As for the oil fondue it comes with meat and potato.

Don't go to this restaurant if you're into plain dining and simple decor as this place is all about the experience as a whole rather than just the food. The staff can vary from the attentive down to the rude but again this is about having a different kind evening. You have to step over the table to get to your seat, the wine is served in baby feeding bottles (!) and the menu is really limited - a set starter of cheese chunks and sliced meat with a glass of sweet wine. But it's the main that people come for... cheese fondue or raw beef cooked in oil (by you).
We've been twice now and had both options. I personally preferred the beef as you can experiment with how rare you want it and I found the cheese to be a bit much after a while. The best option is to go as a group of four and get both, or get chatting to the people next to you and ask for a bit of theirs!
If you're up for a different kind of night and don't mind communal eating then this is definitely a place to visit. At 25 Euros a head, it's great value and really tasty.

Le Refuge des Fondues is more than just dinner, it is a sociable and fun way to spend an evening. The area surrounding the restaurant and Sacre Coeur is incredibly quaint and walking through is an amazing way to spend an evening. The restaurant itself is small, but the long communal tables make it welcoming and the writing on the wall of visitors past gives it an undeniable charm. The concept of the restaurant is simple: red or white wine (which come in baby bottles), one appetizer plate and either beef or bread to accompany your fondue. If you are expecting the best food in Paris, this place is not for you... but if you want a unique experience in a beautiful part of Paris Le Refuge des Fondues can't be missed!

One of our best nights in Paris began in this restaurant and we had the time of our lives there.

But, after reading some of the negative reviews here, and looking back without the two baby-bottles worth of wine in my system, I have to say that the reason we had so much fun was because of the people we were lucky enough to get to sit next to and not because of the restaurant itself.

So, as has been said in most of the reviews here: Yes, you drink from baby bottles. Yes the female members of the group are required to step over the tables to find their seats, occasionally being asked to step over roasting fondue pots in skirts (Yikes)! and yes, the owner is a big time rude, disrespectful, and outright offensive person, making dirty jokes and mercilessly mocking customers who did not understand French, in French, to their faces.

The fondue is not great. The wine is okay. The side dishes are pathetic, and the dessert is canned fruit salad placed in a bowl.

But with the right company, on a quiet night, it is possible to have a blast in this place. We ended up at a table sitting between a pretty wild pair of Canadian women and a couple of sweet young girls from Cleveland. Alcohol was consumed, friendships were made, and in the end we had a pretty hilarious time as a newly-composed group of six. The close proximity of the long tables and the tight seating means that whether you like it or not you will be dining with strangers, and as long as you have the right group of strangers next to you it can be a lot of fun!

That being said, on the wrong night, next to the wrong people, or with the wrong expectations, this restaurant could be a real nightmare. Couchemardesque!

If you are nearby and have some time to kill, and are looking for a unique experience, check this place out. If you like good food, a quite classy evening, and good service, try checking down the street.

On our mini-moon to Paris I really fancied some fondue, so off we trot to near the Sacre Coeur, as our guidebook suggested. We were not disappointed! This is a very quaint, rock and roll restaurant with a really humble attitude to everything. Cash only, you choose whether to have red or white wine (which is served in a really fun container... No spoilers from me, but check out the door handle for a clue) and you also choose either meat or cheese fondue. We went for meat, as I mistakenly thought you paid extra £ & got meat along with cheese but this was incorrect - much to my husband's delight! You cook the pieces of steak to your own preference & when the oil get colder they bring fresh, hot oil. It was PACKED on this Friday night, but still only 10 mins until we were seated in the small, social restaurant. See if you can find the names we scribbled (with permission) on the walls. AWESOME place, will return with more people so we can have the cheese and meat combo.
