The closest you can get to having a French family cook for you. In the world of hyper choice, it is pleasant to come in and be surprised by whatever Bertrand has cooked up that day. Would that the idea of buying fabulous wines with only a 7 euro corking fee catch on all over-I'd be living in a much bigger NYC apartment. In any case, Les Papilles certainly treats your tastebuds and wallet well. The idea of a chef actually being in a restaurant and focussing on cooking one meal for his guests is just so impossibly charming, as is Bertrand, that you can't help but being wowed. All the food was scrumptious and we drank a much higher class of wine than we typically do, which really makes this one of the best places to eat and drink in Paris, period.

We loved the price fix menu since we were 12 (2 tables). Bertrand couldn't have been more accommodating and personable. Everyone enjoyed the soup of the day, which was plentiful..the lamb shoulder was tender and tasty. The restaurant was narrow, but clean and cozy. We hated to leave...a great first night in Paris choice.

This was hands down our favorite meal in Paris. We loved the no menu approach; you eat what they bring you and it was all great. Started with creamy sweet potato soup, then a wonderful pork and whipped cauliflower meal, cheese course, and dessert. The total (with a 43€ bottle of wine) was under 120€ for two people. Also a great value for the amount and quality of food you get in Paris. This is a very small, popular place for good reason. Here is our warning: Not only are reservations a MUST, but apparently, when making reservations weeks ahead like we did, you also have to call day of to reconfirm. Our hotel made our reservations two weeks ahead of time, but failed to mention the reconfirm (and didn't reconfirm on our behalf). When we showed up the owner (understandably) scolded us a little, but still let us sit. I think he knew it was the hotel's fault. Shortly after we sat, we saw lots of people turned away because the restaurant can only accommodate so many people. We were so thankful the owner let us stay, and gave us the best dinner we had all week on our last night in Paris.

We booked Les Papilles well in advance of our trip to Paris, after reading many a wonderful review - not just on trip advisor.
Les Papilles is one of the most reviewed restaurant on trip advisor in paris and stands at present at no 23, that telling a story in itself.
This was going to be our first meal in Paris having just arrived hours previously, we were blown away from the minute we stepped inside.
The restaurant has loads of character, with you having the choice of wines straight from the shelf at the price shown plus corkage of 7 euros. Behind the old fashioned bar, the owner Bertrand is on hand to talk you through the menu of the day. We enjoyed watching the chef work in a tiny kitchen and the smooth operation of a busy, happy restaurant. Since coming home we have researched the wine we had that day and it was of good value.
You have a few options when dining at Les Papilles: small plates - tapas style, or chefs menu of the day - their version of a tasting menu which we chose and found to be brilliant.
To start that day, a cauliflower and bacon soup - a large soup plate arrived garnished with croutons, bacon lardons, chives, creme fraiche, along with a tureen filled with the velvet luscious soup allowing you to help yourself to a portion to suit. The main followed - wholesome cod fillet on crushed potato favoured with caper, shallots, tomato concasse and peppers with all the cooking juice poured over. The third course was a tasting plate of Brie and onion marmalade and the meal was completed with an apple pannacota with caramel foam - dessert heaven. At 35 euros each the value was excellent, I would've easily payed a lot more. A WOW start to our trip in Paris.

Quirky, dainty and absolutely packed. The walls are lined with wine, the floor is a miracle of tiny mosaics. Visually very appealing & we were welcomed warmly. Please do be aware that this is a set menu restaurant and you get what happens to be the chefs choice at the market daily, i.e. a four course meal, you pay for the whole four courses no matter what you eat. We started with a very fine wine, Morgon 2011, "Cote du Py", a Shiraz I believe he said. After an exquisite Amuse bouche, what we were offered next, two of us would never have chosen, and readily admitted they would have missed a fine dining experience had they forgone this. Celery soup? Pardon! this is not what you expect from a place like this? a small square of solid vegetable appeared in front of us, topped with creme fraiche, complete with all the suitable decorative drops & drips of garnish, we finished trying to establish where the soup part came in & looked up just as Chef placed an enormous white tureen at the table, then proceeded to serve our soup. One ladle over each and the Veg square came alive, It was, in a word, velvet! Long slow cooking produced the next course of red wine simmered, large beef cheeks with the rings of raw white onion adding a lovely fresh crunch, we mopped up every precious drop of the jus with the delicious bread only the French seem capable of producing. Dessert, i'm never a fan, and I admit I don't recall what it was but as I ate every bite, enough said! We finally rolled out, fully replete and quite a few Euros poorer but extremely happy with every small nuance of what was a fine meal. A tip! you need to book well in advance for an evening, we didn't know that but our luck was in for a last minute lunch booking.
