This restaurant was recommended for the beef in pepper sauce. We were welcomed at the door by the proprietor who showed us to our table and gave us the menus. We started with the scallops, succulent and garlicky, no sauce but the flavour was very tasty. The beef in pepper sauce, three pieces of fillet in a lovely sauce served with frites. My wife never finished hers so I had to help her out, not a problem. We were given a good bit of time to digest the food and then dessert, and what a dessert. I can't remember all the ingredients but it was served one the one plate and was delicious. One thing, the proprietor said the meat was better than any I could get from our butcher, Crombie's in Edinburgh but I had a fillet steak from there last night and Crombie's gets the nod. The restaurant is a very convivial place and the owner a very charming man. Highly recommended.

This has to be among the best in Paris for authentic French food frequented by locals and celebs alike. Hand written menu and tight tables add to the atmosphere and the food is totally sublime. The 'special beef' is truly special and the escargots were meaty and garlicky. Small reasonably priced wine list and great deserts all make it a great understated place to try.

Totally professional service and a wonderful experience for lunch in the 16th. The veal bourgonon was perfection served with potatoes and the entrecôte, cooked a pointe was delicious. The best French fries, a carafe of house red and wonderful desserts: chestnut purée with creme fraiche and three sorbets, frais, citron and cassis. This is a restaurant that makes you feel great. It is confident and steeped in family tradition and pride. Excellent coffee and terrific ambiance. Don't miss this place.

This family run restaurant is only for people able to appreciate outstanding and very typical" French bistrot". Great meat, special atmosphere but no privacy (you can follow next table conversation) and not cheap. I love this place and I always go there when I am in Paris

Having heard that "Les Gourmets des Ternes" was among Paris best meat restaurants, we booked a table there with a couple of friends.
As we noticed on the website of the restaurant, the owner is very proud to count many famous and/or beautiful people (actors, models, politicians, journalists, sportsmen...) among his clients and this was confirmed by the dozens of photographs of the same people (each one in the arms of the owner) which cover the walls of the lavatories !
This success might be the cause of the unusual and rather surprising way in which the owner (and to a lesser extent the staff) are treating patrons: our friends were late and despite the fact that my wife and I were already seated and had already ordered wine and appetizers, we were threatened to be removed and to have to wait outside until our friends would arrive !!! Fortunately, our friends showed up before the sentence was executed and we finally stayed at our table.
The seating of the place is packed and you are sharing the conversations of the two tables next to you. The room is very noisy and certainly not appropriate for intimate discussions.
The menu plays a "typical French" and even "Parisian" tune, with many basic and traditional food. The prices are on the upper end for such delicacies. The wine list is comprehensive and includes a choice of 3 different years for Chateau Petrus (each above 2000EUR), which is consistent with the purchasing power of the people whose photo you can admire in the toilets...
Having said that, I must admit that the food itself saved our dinner. Indeed, the 4 of us tested lamb, beef stirloin and the special recipe of the house (massive piece of tender and juicy beef covered with a creamy pepper sauce) and everything was really good. The fries are home-made and were tasty and crispy. Desserts ("baba au rhum" served with a full bottle of rhum, fresh berries with cream and chocolate mousse) were also pretty good (although not cheap).
Were it not for the quality of the food, we would have definitely put this strange restaurant on our black list. We are nevertheless very unlikely to give it another try...
