Visited on a very busy Friday evening during a visit for France v Wales rugby international. Restaurant was very busy but they still managed to find room for eight of us. An excellent atmosphere in a typical bistrot .The staff were most helpful with their recommendations delivered in perfect English. The recommended pig's cheeks were outstanding. House wine cheap, but perfectly adequate. I would not hesitate to visit again, in fact , I will make a point of visiting again. Merci beaucoup.

Just got back from Paris and stayed in the 13th, a little residential arrondissement that has very few tourists, and that's a good thing. For a taste of good, non-pretentious French food, served by super-nice staff, Le Temps des Cerises is the place to go. The Butte aux Cailles area is loaded with little restaurants but this one caught our eye and we ate there twice in a week. Prix fixe "formule" menu is €19 for two courses, €25 for all three. We shared dessert, a yummy white chocolate mousse done just right. Main courses included their famous pig cheeks. Now, don't get turned off by the title. This is delicious meat in a savory dark gravy and if you didn't know it, you'd swear you are eating beef. The mashed potatoes on the side are to die for. On my first night I had the blanquette de beau, a nice chunk of veal shank in a lightly seasoned creamy sauce, with rice on the side. This is the kind of French cuisine you will get in a home, if you are ever so lucky to be invited. These guys get it right and retain their sense of humor even when faced with a full house. I highly recommend this place. Service is included, but there is a tip jar at the register so of course you'll want to throw a few extra Euros their way just for being so nice and accommodating. Please don't confuse this with the other place by the same name; the reviews I see here often refer to the Marais. The restaurant you see in the photo is in Butte aux Cailles, a short walk from the Place d'Italie métro station. Bon appétit!

Among the many restaurants in the Rue de la Butte aux Cailles, this is a must. The food is solid, at a good price and can be recommended without reservation if you are aiming for traditional French food. The main reason to go there however is the ambience that captures the spirit of the commune, personified by the staff, the guests and the decoration. The aperitif should be a 'Communard' and expect your order to be confirmed by a jovial 'oui camerade' without any unnecessary refinement. We suggest to listen to the song 'le temps de cerises' on youtube and read about the history of the commune before going there to really appreciate it. It is a genuine Parisian XIIIth experience.

This is a classic bistro in the picturesque cobbled Butte aux Cailles area. A great find if you are an ex pat living in Paris or are a frequent visitor and looking for something authentic. There are lots of Parisians here and hardly any tourists, so you may need to brush up on your French! The food is straightforward but good and reasonably priced, with all the standard bistro fare. The service can be a bit erratic as the place is so busy, and you will invariably have to wait for a table, but there is definitely something quirky and charming about this place.
