Just got back from Paris and stayed in the 13th, a little residential arrondissement that has very few tourists, and that's a good thing. For a taste of good, non-pretentious French food, served by super-nice staff, Le Temps des Cerises is the place to go. The Butte aux Cailles area is loaded with little restaurants but this one caught our eye and we ate there twice in a week. Prix fixe "formule" menu is €19 for two courses, €25 for all three. We shared dessert, a yummy white chocolate mousse done just right. Main courses included their famous pig cheeks. Now, don't get turned off by the title. This is delicious meat in a savory dark gravy and if you didn't know it, you'd swear you are eating beef. The mashed potatoes on the side are to die for. On my first night I had the blanquette de beau, a nice chunk of veal shank in a lightly seasoned creamy sauce, with rice on the side. This is the kind of French cuisine you will get in a home, if you are ever so lucky to be invited. These guys get it right and retain their sense of humor even when faced with a full house. I highly recommend this place. Service is included, but there is a tip jar at the register so of course you'll want to throw a few extra Euros their way just for being so nice and accommodating. Please don't confuse this with the other place by the same name; the reviews I see here often refer to the Marais. The restaurant you see in the photo is in Butte aux Cailles, a short walk from the Place d'Italie métro station. Bon appétit!
