“Absolutely amazing”

The food was incredible! Seafood so fresh and well presented. The space and decoration of the room briliant.
We had fish soup; fish tartare and the sea dish - big portions and very tasty.
Really good - a must go for all!!!

“Poor service. Average food. Tape à l'oeil!”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

From the moment we were seated, the server started to joke about our origin. Treating us just like "cons", as if we were not in the habit of dining in great restaurants. At each of the interventions of the server, we were entitled to a derogatory remark, even insulting. The dishes did not look like the photograph submitted in their "electronic menu tablet". The Seafood plate at 49 Euros was a misrepresentation of a promising experience at this price. Many fillers with 2-3 varieties of miniature shells, not tasty, chewy. The squid dish had no tenderness. The cod dish shown in the photo was served without garnish in the plate (shells + vegetable) - side dishes were served. In summary, all the dishes lacked love. We had dinner at Bernard Loiseau in Beaune 2 days before with an exceptional value for money and an excellent foodie experience. So sorry, gentlemen, your restaurant is a tourist trap.

“Magnifique”

Seafood, in Paris?
A seafood dinner in Paris was definitely not on our list of must dos during our last visit to Paris.. But this restaurant has added Le Bar a huitres Place de Visges as one of the experiences to savour when in Paris.
The place was cosy, we had a table by the glass window looking out into the street. We passed the restaurant several times during our walks to the hotel and the cosy ambience and the array of spread of seafood ( oh the sizes of them) in front of the restaurant really did the trick of us deciding to try out the place.
I think we made the right choice. Being our first there, the plan was to order for three, but the waiter recommended for two. Glad he did! The big portions of juicy sweet oysters, lobsters & various shellfish spread with just sparkling water was indeed a dinner to remember..
Great seafood.

“An interesting and tasty experience for seafood lovers.”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

Two years ago on my way to the still very au courant MERCI store at 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais I came across the Le Bar a Huitres in placed nicely in a corner with wonderful displays of super fresh seafood of all kinds. So once again while staying in Marais we decided to go again on a Friday evening, without reservation.
Initially although the restaurant seems like a different type of a typical Parisian seafood restaurant, a bit austere, with grey rattan armchairs and sleek modern surfaces and steel and glass, the space is very nicely done with nice interiors and table settings, (try to have a table overlooking outside the boulevard).
Once you seat the very kind and helpful and attentive waiters arrive with an I Pad for each guest, and the whole experience begins with a laugh and a surprise from the brilliant I Pad menus (I'm tech-phobic but found them so much more fun and user-friendly than the typical confusion of printed options between fixed, a la carte etc, which are served up in France) to the almost theatrical presentation of cascading dry-ice-fog from alarmingly large towers of crustaceans and shell fish.
These are supported atop swivelling industrial strength, plug-in stainless steel platforms which brilliantly resolve the problem of trying to provide tables big enough to display daunting mountains of in-the-shell fresh seafood, whilst maintaining the intimacy of the table and the dining experience.
The different seafood plateaux are all really nice, the homard the langoustine, the boulon, the oysters all were deliciously fresh and on the side a subtle almost-mayonnaise which I think combined with creme fraiche and a light aiolii. The wine was very nice too as were the desserts! Another very crazy thing was the super huge black pepper mills.
We were lucky to have found this really nice, innovative, very slick seafood restaurant on our way to the MERCI concept store, down Boulevard Beaumarchais.
