Having eaten in the place twice I found the quality of food average and not up to expectation, given that the restaurant carries a Michelin recommendation, which is usually a reliable indicator of good food and great value. The whines are well chosen and the restaurant owned whine shop across the street can be wholeheartedly recommended.

Ok, I'm not really into the funky pot au feux, however everything else is out of this world, and price/quality, can't be beat in Paris. Highly recomended.

My wife's 50th birthday dinner was celebrated at L'Avant Gout at the strong recommendation of a Parisienne friend, and it was spot on!
Incredible meal and wonderful staff, and a very hip and inviting dining room. We arrived at 730pm and were only one of two tables on a Saturday night.....not a good sign. The place was soon full within 20 minutes, and it felt like many were regulars.
A true hidden foodie gem well worth seeking out!

Went there with a group and had a two course meal with a glass of wine and a coffee for about 15 euro. Hard to beat that. I had the fish, which wasn't world class, but was quite acceptable.

Fills up a small space with a lot of tables at lunch, best reserve or go off peak. A competitor in an area full of restaurants.

A different dining experience, some of the other 5 people I was with would say the food was awful but it is a question of taste and open mindedness to "la difference". There is a "famed" Pot au Feu which I enjoyed, a friend who had the "Tokyoised" version could not eat it, mainly because it was not what they expected.

It's a small converted shop, probably seats about 50, priced at Paris levels or a 32 euro set three course which you can mix and match from the majority of the menu and IIRC there was a weekday daytime 14 euro plat selection too. Lots of French people eating there, some excellent wine that didn't cost a fortune and a great atmosphere and hubbub. Easy walk from the Mercure Gobelins.
