“Great food!”

a solid paris bistrot experience - good food, fine wines, cramped tables...all in all, a great atmosphere.

“Delicious menu”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

One is taken aback when first entering, it is tiny and guests are squeezed in! We were a bit early so there were only a couple of diners! Within half an hour it was full and people were constantly being turned away! The menu was very varied and our chosen dishes, pigeon for my husband and Iberico pork for me were outstanding followed by fabulous crepes Suzette!
A recommendation by our concierge, it delivered more than expected!

“A staple”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

I was a little surprised at the recent reviews as I frequented this restaurant several times over the years, so was a little worried about my booking last month.

I do agree that this restaurant is small and the tables are tight. In fact every time I have been there, we end up talking to the diners on the table beside us as everyone does pick up on each other's conversation (what do you recommend, that looks delicious etc. etc....). A romantic little restaurant this is not! However on the plus side, the food (prix fix menu) is good. I would go for some of the specials they have; the snail and mushroom pancake appetiser was delicious. Was it worth paying the Eur20 supplement for the truffles in the main course? Probably not, even though the dish was very tasty.

I have stayed at the Westin around the corner over the years and have seen this restaurant change from a somewhat dingy diner (albeit, with good food) to a more upmarket brasserie. But one thing has remained true; the food is good and the young wait staff are welcoming and helpful with recommendations and explanations.

All in all, a good brasserie which may not blow your tastebuds away and may not be best for a romantic dinner, but it serves up well flavoured, generous dishes which will not break the bank.

“Oh dear”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Having eaten at many French restaurants over the years across the world I can safely say that this is the worst experience I have ever had. Walking in to sit down is a task in itself as tables must be rearranged to seat the newcomers. This is awkward enough in a busy, bustling restaurant, however, when a pin dropping could be heard, it is an incredibly uncomfortable experience. Roll on food and service! Champagne ordered and served in a wine glass - a major faux pas by any standards. Add to this two waiting staff completely lacking in personality and warmth and big things were going to have to come from the food.Alas, the worst was yet to come. The starter with the goats cheese, foie gras and apple terrine lacked any clear semblance and was crying out for a proper chef to balance the flavours. The other starter of crab croquettes was something akin to a poor chicken nugget found a la mcdo! The mains also followed in similar vain with a sloppy presentation and a plate bathed in more oil than a badly informed Brit on the costa del sol.

Those seeking good food and good atmosphere should stay well clear and head along to 'le bois au biche' near the Gare de Lyon!

“What a shocking dinner”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Perhaps our experience was marred by having had an excellent meal at "a la biche au bois" the previous evening....from the start, this place was a disaster...on arrival, all of those at the restaurant turned to stare at us....a sign that there was not enough going on in atmosphere at the restaurant....and that did not change. Staff had no personality, starter of goats cheese and foie gras just did not work.....neither did the main course of dorade, vegetables , risotto and some very hefty vinaigrette taste on top....too many tastes, badly put together. Dessert , supposedly , "les sorbets" turned up with 2 quenelles of sorbet, a quenelle of chocolate ice cream, and another of vanilla ice cream....the waitress told me that they were sorbets...I had them removed and asked for the bill.
I believe that this place is suggested to people by well meaning others at hotels and should be avoided if you wish to eat good food in a pleasant atmosphere.
