Description: l'AOC is named for those important little letters you find on your bottle of wine, not the grands vins, but the darned drinkable ones of more quotidian price. This small, welcoming restaurant is like a proper country eaterie, but in the heart of lively Boulelvard St Germain. There are tiles on the floor, charming prints and cookware adorn the walls, yet white tablecloths and smart service. You generally choose your plate of mixed starters, charcuterie and the like, from the buffet laid out on the polished antique chest-of-drawers. Then move on to one of the wonderful grilled dishes that are the speciality of the house. As you might suspect, the wine list is well worth exploration.

We decided, as it was very warm, to sit outside. Nice enough, but the traffic can be noisy. However, our conversation soon drowned it out!

The food was straightforward and comfort style, but well-cooked and delicious. No rognons sadly, so tried the confit de canard. Good choice!

Prices in Paris are very much up with London, so don't expect this place to be that cheap, but then when on holiday... We enjoyed it very much.

Some friends and I tried to get in to a very popular restaurant around the corner on a Saturday night, but it was full. The maitre d' very kindly recommended two other places, of which L'AOC was one.

It, too, was crowded, but the very gracious lady in charge managed to squeeze us in after a wait of about 15 minutes. Inside, it was warm and cozy, with a few rooms and nooks here and there. THe decor was welcoming. We squeezed in to a table with a street view. The staff were pleasant and helpful, but Madame was just lovely and made our night. Some of us spoke French and others only English, but she was happy to swap in and out of whichever was most suitable.

We all chose from the 29 euro menu. We started off with their rose wine aperitif du maison. I had delicious tempura prawns served on a slate tile, followed by a rabbit and potato dish, in a rich tasty gravy. Dessert was mascarpone with tropical fruits. Including drinks, it came to 45 euros per head. Definitely worth a return visit.

Perfect cliché of a French bistrot : great meat, interesting wines, unfriendly service.
Watch for the tartar; one friend got intoxicated that evening.

This is a pretty restaurant with an authentic, cheery French appearance. They're really into the sourcing of their meats and the "black-footed chicken" from some special supplier really is remarkably tasty. They also seem to specialize in terrines. The duck is from some special cut that really tastes like steak. I mean REALLY tastes like steak. Not sure how I feel about that. The staff is nice, although not all of them seem to speak English. For a night when you really want to feel like you're in Paris, this perfect.

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend. And this being our first trip to Paris, we wanted it to be special. And special it was! All I can say was that I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for its great service (with a sincere smile) and its gorgeous food. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Paris - thanks to you again L'AOC!
