We went with friends and decided to try a new place. Entre salad (Saigon Salad) was actually quite good but the plat was overlooked and over spiced (with orange). That coupled with the fact it took us over an hour to get our food after completing our entres (1.5hrs after ordering) and the overall price of the meal (86 euros for 2 with no drinks) made this a less than enjoyable evening.

I was surprised to find a rather bad review for this excellent restaurant. I have been going here for several years following a recommendation from a gourmet friend and I have never been disappointed. We went a couple of nights ago with our children (the first time for the children). It is probably the best Vietnamese restaurant in Paris (and there are quite a few). This restaurant uses proper Vietnamese herbs to prepare very authentic Vietnamese food (NOT the sort of food that is indistinctly Chinese/Vietnamese and that is found so often in Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants in Paris).

The mixed Vietnamese starters are delicious and quite ample for two as a starter - it includes various specialities such as crab and prawn nems. The beef with lemongrass starter is also extremely good. The menu of mains is quite extensive - prawns in curry is yummy (not at all a Thai curry - instead a quite distinctive mild curry with the Vietnamese herbs adding the most delicious flavours), peking duck in a thick sauce is also good and the grilled skewers (choice of chicken, duck, prawns, beef and I think lamb) are all very distinctive and marinated in different delicious marinade. Each of the mains comes with either rice, noodles or beansprouts so you do not need to order side dishes. We have never had room for dessert so I cannot comment on them!

The restaurant is very tiny and so you do need to book usually and the tables are very close together (but if you eat out much in Paris then you will be used to that). They have grown lots of plants in pots outside to screen the windows from the road and when they open the window in the summer, it is like sitting in a garden if you have a table by the window. Service is friendly and although there were no other children when we went, ours were certainly welcomed (and they enjoyed the chicken skewers very much!). The gewurtraminer on the wine list is very good and accompanies the food well.

I would however agree that it is rather expensive. Starters are around €15 each and mains between €22 and €30. There is a tasting menu at around €50 which looks good value but I suspect you need to be quite hungry to appreciate it properly. I think that it is definitely worth the price in view of the quality of the food but I admit that it is not the cheapest Vietnamese in Paris.

Having just had a Thai massage, my friend and I wanted to continue our Asian theme and have Asian cuisine. We should have used the "When in Rome" theme and eaten a French baguette and a hunk of Brie instead. The food was OK in flavour..but the prices and the service made this a bad choice.

Although the decor is nice and the restaurant is clean..it summed up our sterile experience.

We ordered a "starter" plate to share and a rice "entree" which was recommended to us and were told it would be adequate for two people. Perhaps. If you aren't too hungry and like to eat leaves. Two shrimp, slightly bigger than my pinky finger were atop fresh cucumbers, carrots, and bean sprouts. Two spring rolls were served..and had a bizarre nutty if not fungi taste...not an interesting yet good flavour, yet an interesting but strange taste. The crab toasts were fine. Our rice plate was apparently going to be served as a main course? For two people? Rather odd. Heads shaking, we asked for the bill and she then asked about the rice....which we assumed she had forgotten. A 48 euro bill for two beers, a starter plate, and a forgotten dish of rice seemed WAY overpriced. The waitress said she'd wrap up rice and with paying of the bill it was forgotten and we left. Two blocks away, we remembered our rice, and returned for it, Suffice to say, I had a bite of it and it is currently in the fridge.

Delicate food in a refined setting. Fresh herbs, ingredients and one of the few authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Paris.
