I have been going to Gallopin for years but since it has been under new ownership it's just not the same as it used to be.There are some waiters who have been there for ages which is great and the service is still good. but the food is not as good and more expensive than it used to be.I'm sorry not to be giving more reasons why I'm disappointed but it's off the list for a favourite now.

I had dinner at Gallopin after arriving in Paris on an overnight flight and sightseeing all day. I was looking for a casual restaurant with really good food. I found it in Gallopin! I had a glass of champagne and the slow cooked lamb. My friend had a fish and bread dish (it was a giant puff of fish and bread in a sauce) that was wonderful. There were numerous families with children in Gallopin while we were there. Would be a perfect family friendly restaurant that allows the adults to enjoy a good meal.

Oldfashioned but high aesthetics and decoration. Really good and friendly service. It is preferable to have a menu of three dishes instead of separate ones, prices will be lower. Delicious dishes and a very good wine list.

The essential things that differentiate Gallopin from your 'by the book' Paris bistro are the level of service and the solid offerings from the kitchen. I've dined here about once a year for the past five years or so, and the quality has remained high every single time.

Unlike soooo many restaurants in Paris, you always feel warmly welcome here even if you don't speak fluent French. The only minor thing to complain about the last time I was there with a group of four was the time it took to get some drinks to our table. The waiter had to be reminded of the order roughly 10-15 minutes after he had collected the order, and then things started to happen. Needless to say, this could have happened at practically any other Parisian bistro.

Pretty much everything from the (very traditionally French) menu that I've tried has been good. And the portions are real bistro size, not the tiny haute cuisine type.

However, it's good to know that it all comes at a price, meaning that the average price level of Gallopin is indeed above average at dinnertime - especially if you decide to take it dish by dish and not go for the menu (where the selection of dishes is limited).

But then again, in a city where it's so easy to get crappy or lukewarm service as a foreigner, I don't mind paying a bit extra for a solid combination of things like this.
