“Good traditional brasserie”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Good dinner at Gallopin, although on the expensive side (maybe as most brasseries in Paris...). Service was really good, the restaurant is beautiful and the cuisine is fine. I recommend asking for a table in one of the two main rooms; we were placed in between (3 tables in the "hallway" separating the two main rooms) and it was not a good place to be seated, especially with the toilets nearby and waiters going back and forth. Overall a good place although a bit pricey (around EUR 50-60 per person for dinner).

“If you appreciate fine dining, intricate flavours, good service and reasonable value, you can do better!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012 via mobile

In hindsight, I wish I'd invested the 90€/head from this meal into a much cheaper cafe meal! Okay, so granted, myself and my partner came here for a Christmas Day lunch, so our experience was not necessarily an accurate reflection of this restaurants normal food and service. Notwithstanding, I wouldn't be going to this place again.

We each paid 90€ per head for a fixed course option and a bottle of wine to share. It seemed like a reasonable deal on paper; I enjoy good food and don't mind paying a premium for it. However, I was very disappointed with it. It was very bland compared to some of the other French meals I've had at much cheaper prices (even at the cafes).
The other tables appeared similarly dissatisfied with their food - it's very much American style (chips, steaks, etc) with very little of the terrific flavouring the French are so good at. The fact that it was mainly 60-70 year olds in their kind of reinforced the fact that this restaurant was living off of its old reputation rather than as a standout 'foodie' hangout.

In terms of the service, our waiter never ONCE came over during the 5 course meal to top up our wine (and by the time he did we'd finished the bottle - even then he didn't even bother asking if we'd like another). This is quite common in France, seemingly, but this place was the worst by far (especially considering the premium price we were paying). Perhaps more annoyingly was the fact that the waiters rushed us between courses; having gave us about 5-10mins between (we were in and out in about 1.5hours). This was ridiculous for a Christmas dinner. My partner and I were looking forward to settling into a long, expensive drawn out lunch. We were going to grab another bottle of wine to accompany out darker meats, but in the end it was not possible because it was over so quickly (and to be honest, after the last course we were pretty keen to get out of there and spend our money elsewhere!)

If you appreciate fine dining, intricate flavours, good service and reasonable value, you can do better!

“Birthday Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

We visited this restaurant on my birthday, it was a little difficult to find, only because it was near some construction. It was a beautiful restaurant, the service was amazing. Romain was our waiter and he was attentive, impeccable and so polite. It was great wine, my husband got lamb and mashed potatoes, which were absolutely amazing, I got the steak and french fries which were absolutely delicious and homemade- we would definitely recommend his meal over mine but both were delicious. We then shared an upside down apple tart that was amazing! Perfect birthday dinner, worth every penny.

“Elegant restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

Had dinner in this restaurant. The setting is both elegant but relaxed at the same time. This is an old established restaurant with lovely decor. Service attentive but understated. The food was delicious. The prices are very good for such a top class restaurant.

“Nice Classic Brasserie in Paris”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

One evening dinner with friends. No noise, well served, low lights, beautiful interiors. Good food altough not a long list of choices, also wine list not very rich. We had both fish and meat, entrees and desserts, together with a good but overpriced Pouilly Fumè.

In general I would rate good level of service and quality of food and preparation, without being very expensive. But not 'unforgettable' by any means, missing some character. But if you look for a quite and chic place around place de la Bourse, is a god choice.
