Le Comptoir is one of those restaurants that you wished was right down the street from where you live because I couldn't imagine ever tiring of Chef Yves Cambdeborde innovative, thoughtful, and perfectly executed cuisine. A friend and I shared 8 courses over 4 hours one afternoon and we barely scratched the surface of the extensive and exciting menu. Oeufs Mayonaisse...radis a buerre...Charentes Melon avec Jambon...Ravioli de Homard Blu de Breton...Foie Gras de Canard des Landes...Supremes de Poulet Fermier...Carrre d'Agneau Roti...Tartes de Pommes...not a single course failed to impress. What is so impressive is that the Chef is able to produce such exacting dishes out of a jewel box sized kitchen. Our server was excellent with none of the attitude you sometimes get at lesser restaurants and Yves was even nice enough to come out to our table and say hello. Well chosen and reasonably priced wine list only adds to the great experience. Wouldn't miss Le Comptoir when you are in Paris...

Initially, we heard that there was a snack booth selling tapas where you can have them standing. (The place is just next to Le Comptoir and you would pass it if you don't pay attention) Then, we found a long queue for Le Comptoir and we just joined it. It was almost noon. About 10 minutes standing, we were lucky to get a table outside the restaurant. We found unique dishes on the menu such as calamari with squid ink and pork dish called cochon de lait. Each dish was very delicious. They had a very nice wine list, too. Since the waiters wore uniform of hotel le Relais Saint-Germain, which is right next to the restaurant, I guess the restaurant is a part of the hotel. The 4-star hotel also looked very nice. Overall, the restaurant was the best in Paris, at least for us for this trip.

I visited Le Comptoir 3 times so far. The ambiance is fun and the food is good but be prepared to receive a "attitude" by certain employees especially the ones with titles. The ego often surpasse their knowledge.

The bistronomie is a word completely invented by french journalists. This means to offer quality at a reasonable price! Something between the great cuisine and the brasserie, something between small bites of the neo-modern cuisine and the enormous quantities of the café gourmand. Yves Camdeborde cooks at noon for tourists, students and businessmen. A carte in the minds of district of Saint-Germain des Prés: croque-monsieur with smoked salmon, Nicoise salad, boneless pork leg, all in a very bistro ambience. "Luncheon welcome!" he likes to recall. Evening it change of scenery, the counter turns into a gourmet restaurant for a chosen few. The twenty-two tables for lunch are then reduced to nine. Crystal glasses make their appearance and the menu, unique, revives the finest flavors of the french gastronomy.

This is one of those restaurant when you mention it - people will say touristy and long queue....

I have been going to this restaurant for the past 6 years - the food is consistently great, service is getting better - my last trip last 2 weeks they actually were polite and smile!!, house wine/champagne were horrible but they have good selections of half bottle and by glass. No menu in english but if you are lucky and get one of the nice waiters/tress then he/she will explain the menu to you.

Best to be there at 1130 to beat lunch crowd - and after 1600.

If you have never been I definitely recommend it - try it at least once and judge for yourself.
