Description: Le Caf Moderne restaurant in Paris opposite the old Bourse what a lot of fun with what a lot of style. Just like it says on the sign, this is a brilliantly modern, chic caf with classic colours of cream-coloured walls, burgundy banquettes and upholstery, tables dressed in white and a constantly-changing array of artworks by exciting new artists. The bar area is dressed like a wine cave, with wooden wine crates standing in for side tables. Wines are passionately tested, scrupulously stored and enthusiastically offered here on Monday nights great wines are sold at cost, an incredible bargain. The menu is both classic and modern, with dishes like roast veal with mushroom fricassee and sage jus. Lunchtimes its heaving with bankers and heavy hitters, but much quieter in the evenings.

The type of restaurant which make Paris worth the while.

It is central, near the old stock exchange
The VENUE itself is quite understated, you can have a smoke/glass outside, but it is not a a proper terrace per se. The interior is modern, overlooking a courtyard, and the tables are well spaced so it is not noisy
Prices are decent for quality (count 50 - 70 EUR per head with decent wine)
FOOD is classic French with a modern twist (lamb with garlic, prawns) nice portions delicately cooked
Service is competent and friendly
they have an "elaborate winelist (from Bordeaux Classics to stars such as Trevallon or international oddities such as moscato d'asti)

Truly a beautiful experience for our first night in Paris. Off the Paris main drags yet 5 minutes from the Louvre, one of the owners (Sebastian) greeted us 'gringos' (my family of 4) at the door of this quaint and romantic restaurant and tended to our every whim all night. Between us we ordered practically all options from the 3-course menu and were wow'd by every morsel. Eclectic wine collection was one of the best I have seen anywhere. Cheese course was superb. Bill was less than breakfast at the Delice du Manon. A true gem that busts through all Parisienne stereotypes yet lives up to French culinary decadence. We ended the night by Sebastian personally escorting my family into a cab that he hailed and negotiated for us. Exemplary experience.

- When we arrive, our booking was not taken into account (eventhough we had in our hands a confirmation email)...
- We seat in a narrow so-called dinner room, encircled with 3 walls. Not very good location...
- We were four for dinner; two of us wanted to share one menu. It was then clearly understood by the waitress.
- Food is rather good; ok.
- After the dessert, we took few personnal left-over macarons (eventhough we understand it is not a proper way to do) for a very special evening family event (we live in several countries, and it is rather difficult to meet in one location). The restaurant's answer was rather tough (understood, but the tone was clearly not appropriate).
- At the end, we discover that we had to pay two menus for the people sharing... Anyone could understand a miscommunication at the order of the menus, but the given behaviour of the restaurant was really strange, strong, and nearly insulting for us, customers. In one world, we felt punished. Only their version was good. In a nutshell, we were "bad customers"; they were professionals never doing a single mistake. First time this type of event happens in 20 years of restaurant we did worldwide!
- We did not like the fact that the customers were not simply properly listen...
- A bit too snobish.

First, when we visited over two years ago the restaurant and food and service was excellent. However since then they have changed owners and management. We were with our neice on a quick trip to Paris for our nice dinner. We made reservations well ahead of time and our expectations were high. The restaurant was busy on the Saturday night and our table was ready, almost the same table we had last time. The food was very good this time as well but what happened was attrocious. After we had got our champagne and our wines organised we waited eagerly for the food, and waited and waited... A table of 8 that arrived after us was served their main courses before we got our appetizers. I made the waitress aware and she apologised and said that she had forgot to put the order through and would do it then. To our surprise the Manager came over and started to serve the table, I mentioned to him the delay and asked if there was anything he could do in response. He siad there was nothing really that he could do. So I suggested that we were going to leave after an hour of waiting. He siad that the food was coming right away and that he would personaly take care of our meal and that the waitress was really at fault(to put it mildly). The manager was sort of rude to us and the waitress at which point I interned to him that I wanted the waitress to serve us not him.
As it turns out the manager comped our champagne and we did enjoy our meal after the hullaballoo. I felt so sorry for the waitress who was publicly humiliated by this manager.

Perfect for a business lunch. Good ambiance, good decor, great food. I went with a self-described "foody" business partner from the US who had a great meal. A little slow on the service but overall a great choice at a reasonable price.
