We actually loved the place. It is in Montmartre. We knew what exactly we wanted to eat, and did not need guidance of the service personnel but they are generally really nice and welcoming. They had a baguette to die for and in my opinion provides great value. If you are looking for a not extremely expensive posh restaurant for celebration etc and if your are looking for a local bistro with delicious food, you will love it in a la Pomponette!

Visited this place on recommendation of hotel concierge on my birthday. We were asked rudely if we had a reservation even though there was one person in there at the time! We should have realised what we were in for. We were sat down and left with no water bread or drinks for at least 40 mins. Other people came in and were served food in that time. We were rudely told we would have our order taken in English and having been left for more time than was even polite we left. Probably unnoticed. We know that service is different in France but mad manners are nothing to do with culture. They make a point of saying they speak English then treat you with contempt. We were hungry and walked to the nearby cafe Nazir which was very friendly with good basic food

“feels like a local haunt”

Is it the only bistro not to have Confit de Canard on the menu? That is not a criticism - the food is great, and done without pomp.

“A la delicious!”

Meat is their specialty. Fantastically executed sauces, it really explains why locals flock here for lunch. 100+ years in service and counting. A gem of a place, affordable and fulfilling!

“A slice of Montmartre history”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

We ended up in this restaurant in desperation after being sent, in the pouring rain, up the steep hills of Montmartre to a restaurant recommended by our concierge with a request it not be a 'tourist place'...when we arrived we saw a cold, empty restaurant with glasses for sale with the name of the restaurant on them and decided this was not for us. Now soaking wet, cross and hungry, we fell into A La Pomponette and were lucky to get a table in this very interesting and historical place. A sleeping cat on on the bar also made us feel very much at home! The dishes are more of the casserole type I think which I had and which was very nice. My husband ordered a steak and the largest steak I have ever seen arrived much to the amazement of him...and the tables around us!! We were happy with our meal and it is a worthwhile stop . The service was fine but they were very busy.
