Check-in was fast and efficient. Hugely convenient for the Gare du Nord, which can be accessed using an underpass located immediately by the hotel's entrance. The locale is not especially pleasant at night, but that's not the fault of the hotel, even in December there seemed to be plenty of people sleeping on the streets. My first impression of the room was positive; it had been recently refurbished and was clean and tidy. The bathroom was a different story, sad and tired, with chip marks on both the bath and and handbasin. The toilet suffered from a permanent trickle. But these were minor points. I was lucky to get a room with a window opening on one of the inner atriums, so did not have any problems with traffic noise. I'd rather have peace and quite than a view, so this is worth considering if you are staying here. Overall, an OK choice if you want to be close to the Gare du Nord.

Room Tip: If you don't mind foregoing the view, ask for a room with a window opening onto one of the atriu...

Stayed in this hotel for a two night break to visit the Paris Christmas markets. It is in an excellent location just across from Gard du Nord with plenty of good restaurants close by. Our room was spacious, very clean and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The staff at the reception desk were very friendly and welcoming. We have already recommended the hotel to friends and are planning to return in the near future.

The check in and check out were fast and easy, the hotel itself is in a good position, near several metro stations, and in front of a major train station (Gare du Nord). The workers are friendly and disciplined, the room looks pretty good, the bed was comfortable and clean. The sheets as well. There is a TV, a phone, several lamps, a safe, radiator and an air conditioning unit.
But, the bathroom is surprisingly out of character. It is clean, but everything is old and overused. Some metallic parts were rusty, the toilet had broken pieces, the bathtub was aged. There are several TV programs, but for an international guest, who speaks English, only CNN and BBC are of any use. And nobody wants to watch a news channel the whole time.
The breakfast was acceptably good, but I was expecting more.
And the worst part was the elevator. There were 3 machines, one was defect the whole time, the second one seemed to be falling apart at any moment, and the third one was slow. Not exactly a good thing for guests in the higher levels. The internal part of the building was interesting as well, it wasn't a simple hallway with doors opening to it, there is a maze, and you have to follow signs to find your room.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the rail station have a good view, but could be somewhat noisy.

To start with, the 'superior' room was grim, small, tired carpets, poor furniture, little storage (no drawers storage), bathroom very poor (small, chipped sinks, dirty grouting, had to be a contortionist to use the loo!), couldn't open the wardrobe door completely because it hit the air conditioning unit, plug socket hanging off the wall. Very, very disappointing.

Two English TV channels, 'free' wifi meant constantly putting in log-in details every few minutes. As we checked out at 12:00 midday, and we did not travel until 16:00, we were offered the opportunity to leave our luggage in reception, an offer which we utilised. After a while, we decided we would go to the hotel's very small 'lounge', only to find it locked until 16:00 on a Saturday - unbelievable as the hotel offers no other place to sit other than a draughty hall and first floor open landing seats, both very limited.

The hotel does not offer an evening meal, the dining rooms used for breakfast are not utilised for evening meals.

Location was good if you want to go out and about with the Metro just outside the doors and the Gare de Nord just across the road. Some eateries but none of excellent value to be honest.

Room Tip: I dread to think what the standard rooms are like so my advice: choose as superior a room as you can...

Good points : room decent size, quiet. Breakfast very good and staff welcoming and friendly.
Not so good, dirty carpet and skirting board breaking away in some areas. Bathroom needs updating.
There was of course lack of mirror and desk dressing table to make getting ready easier, I was with my daughter and as the only mirror was in the bathroom meant taking longer to get ready and dry hair etc, this problem is not specific to the Mercure , my belief is that women should be consulted more when rooms are designed. To finish on a good note, hotel is directly opposite Gard du Nord and plenty of good restaurants close by

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before accceptance

I have stayed at this hotel at least 10 times over the last few years. The location, if you are travelling on Eurostar, is fantastically convenient. The rooms are variable in size and the bathrooms generally in need of some TLC, however it's comfortable enough if you are not planning to spend a lot of time here. The hotel's greatest downfall is consistently the front desk, where the process and the queue is frequently lengthy. Don't leave checking-out until the last minute or you could be caught out. Equally be careful if you have prepaid your room that you are not charged again. This has happened to me twice this year. If the hotel could just fix this one aspect it would rate so much higher for me. Otherwise it's a great choice if you are visiting Paris from the UK and need somewhere convenient to crash.
