“Great Location, Nice decor, very clean”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

This hotel have been renovated 2 years ago, it has a great central location vs the main attractions of Paris. One of the most important things is that the tube station is just across the street and also that the street the hotel is in has all kinds of shops and restaurants. The Hotel design is very nice except for the low lighting. The room and bathroom are very clean, could be considered spacious compared to other hotels with same budget. We had an issue with the bill at check out, after I went back home I noticed that charged us more then agreed when I booked through the net...I wrote them an email and they returned back the extra money in a couple of days.
This hotel should be rated 4 stars minimum and is highly recommended for its location, cleanness and good service.

Room Tip: No need to take breakfast at the hotel, right beneath it lies a very tasty Pastry with very good pri...

On the positive, it's a short walk to the Eiffel Tower and other attractions, there's a metro station directly in front, the hotel is clean and updated and the staff is nice. You need to realized that rooms are small, there are no amenities, I found the Internet connection spotty (but free). Net, there was nothing delightful about this hotel but it will serve your purpose and not be a source of upset. Not bad for the price.

Average hotel with small rooms but central location makes up for it. Very close to the Eiffel Tower and across the road from public transportation. Rooms could use some space and hallways could use a bit more light....occasionally felt like a dungeon. Would recommend if you can get this place for a low price

There are positives and negatives to this location. First, the positives: the metro is across the street and after a day of 'death marching' around Paris and waiting in line for everything, it's a god send! The rooms are clean, but having gotten back to the room early one day to put things in the fridge from a local market, I arrived to find that the maid had not finished the room but had thrown all of my toiletries from the sink on the floor and they were swimming in soapy water on the bathroom floor. Needless to say I bought new toothbrushes! I didn't say anything to management at the time because I didn't want the maid to steal anything from my room in retaliation. She also didn't replace the soap when she realized that I used the tiny things once, then threw them away! I also had to keep asking for toilet paper.
The front desk staff is hit or miss; sometimes nice, sometimes cool. Regarding the noise, if you're traveling with someone who insists on keeping the window open and you don't have earplugs, you're not getting a wink of sleep. I did like that the fridge was empty so I could pack my own things in them. I don't like when hotels jam the fridge with overpriced things that I don't like. I didn't hear noise from the other rooms so the walls are thick, but don't get a room near the elevator, from what I hear. Also, if you need the maintenance guy to fix something, I overheard an Australian woman complain that the guy tried to blame her for the broken slide door to the bathroom. Not good for PR for sure!
RE: the area. Great area! Upscale, but not too expensive. A grocery store one metro stop away or a short walk-your choice of how you want to get there. Also, great cafes a step away from the door..just don't tip! The French servers are paid a living wage in Paris and even a 5% tip is considered more than adequate to communicate that you appreciated exceptional service!!!! Don't go broke tipping! It's just not necessary!
Finally, the last day, the fire alarm in the hotel went off and my paranoid sister insisted that we trek 6 flights down the stairs to see what was the matter, even though I didn't smell smoke and the quickest way to be rescued from these old buildings is to remain in your room, don't open the doors and stay by the windows until rescue vehicles arrive. That being said, we were two of four people in the entire hotel who left there rooms to see what was the matter only to find out from the manager that someone had been smoking in their room and the fire alarm throughout the entire hotel went off! Word to the wise; if you smoke, go to your window, open it wide, then close the curtains around you to prevent smoke from entering the room. Then lean way out and do it. There were plenty of empty cigarette butts in the gutter below the window of my room so that's how I knew others had done it and the room didn't have a hint of ciggie smoke.
Well, it's up to you. The beds are super comfy, but the rooms are shoeboxes, just like any other European hotel rooms. Fellow Americans just aren't used to the small accommodations so be prepared for tiny everything!!!

Room Tip: Twin beds are pushed together. Rooms on the garden side are quieter, but rooms on the metro side off...

Super small rooms with hardly any room to lay out our suitcases to get organized! Also no tea/coffee amenities... Just an empty bar fridge.

Staff were friendly... So far...but after driving around Europe 2000kms later, they wouldn't dare be rude with me! ;)

Central location and so far so good!

Ps. There is parking across the road, so make sure you either know French, or have someone translate to the garage as they speak ZERO English ;)

I don't think the hotel leaves up to the expectation of 4 out of 5 reviews reviewed by others. The only nice thing about this hotel is the design and the brand new feeling of it.
Do beware that if you do not have breakfast stated as an option when you book, take it as it is. Do not be fooled when the reception tells you breakfast is ready and all you can eat.
Though train station is in front of the hotel, it takes at least 20 mins to travel to the city center which is not a great deal at all and worst part, the metro is not a direct train there.
I stayed for 3 nights with an extension night, the reception first quote me a price at 143 euros, but then when he saw I booked through agoda, he quickly change the price to 158 euros and pleaded with me to accept that price or the boss is going to kill him. LIKE WTF!
For the price, it's completely not worth it

Just returned from our second trip to Paris. We book the First Hotel for the price and location, close to the Eiffel Tower and across from the metro station. Our flight got us to Paris early in the morning. We got to the hotel expecting to have to leave our bags and come back many hours later to check in at the posted time. We were pleasantly surprised to only have to wait about an hour for a room(spent the time eating breakfast a nearby cafe). The room was in the back of the hotel with no view, but considering the time we actually spent in the room, it was fine. The "motion-sensor" hallway lighting was a bit strange. We would open our room door or step out of the elevator into a pitch black hallway and have to wait a few moments for the lights to come on. The only issue we had was that the entire place was EXTREMELY hot and stuffy--the lobby, hallway and our room. The thermostat in the room didn't work, so we had the windows wide open during our entire stay to keep us comfortable. We didn't choose to eat the hotel's breakfast instead opting for the much cheaper pain au chocolat or chausson aux pommes from the place right around the corner. We had a fabulous long weekend in Paris and would consider First Hotel for our next visit.
