“Exactly what we needed!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Spent a week here while exploring Paris with my 12 year old daughter who has been studying French since she was 5yrs old. Not only were the accommodations very comfortable, the locations gave us a chance to feel like we were part of the "real" Paris and away from the tourist crowds. Our daily walk to the Metro station was a great chance to talk before heading out to explore Paris.

Above all, Marie and Alex where extremely helpful with suggestions including some places that were "off the map". One of our best days was a trip to "Parc des Buttes Chaumont" on May Day when everything in Paris was closed. Had it not been for their guidance we would have never found that gem!

Marie and Alex also took time to talk with my daughter in French every morning and when they found out she was in ballet suggested a visit to the Repetto store where she bought her most cherished souvenir of the trip.

I tell everyone I know about La Villa Paris!

Worthy of it's No.1 rating. My wife and I spent our honeymoon here in December 2012. The room was warm, clean and comfortable. Our Bathroom with jacuzzi was bigger than some hotel rooms we have stayed in. However the main thing that makes this place stand out are all the small touches from Maria and Alex. They both made us really welcome during our stay and made every effort to be friendly and helpful. I was a little worried about the location being out of the centre, however, metro and RER are 12-15 walk from Cite universite or Place d'italie and there is a bus stop right outside that you can use travel card with. Thank you La Villa, Simon & Amanda

Stayed three nights in July with my wife. This hotel was in a great location (5-7 min walk to two metro stations) on a quiet and very safe street. The accommodations were wonderful and extremely comfortable. The best part was the wonderful and personalized service you receive from Marie and her staff. The price can not be beat for this level of comfort and service in Paris, we will be back.

We stayed at the Villa for five nights over Thanksgiving. This was our first trip to Paris. Maria and Alex were delightful and provided excellent service. They helped us with tickets, restaurants, and public transportation. The breakfast was great with great choices. The room was big, beds were warm and comfortable, nice bathroom, decent view, and most important clean. The neighborhood was nice and quiet.

Location for us was good not great as we were always getting on the bus or metro traveling to the various tourist areas. So if you are looking to stay in the busy area of Paris book a room at the W. That's part of the good and bad with the Villa as it's in a nice neighborhood but a bit removed from the busy areas; hence, quiet at night. Comparison - like staying upper west side 85th and Broadway in NYC.

Easy to get to/from the airport. We took a cab at 9am Paris time to the hotel it was 70 euro and took 1.5 hours because of traffic. TAKE the train (RER) easier and cheaper.

We would stay again.

The Villa Paris is located in a beautiful and quiet residential area which makes it perfect if you are looking for a relaxed time off.

The hotel is sunrrounded of almost any type of services and stores thst you may expect from a residential neighborhood such as coin laundry, restaurants, bars, bakery, supermarket, butchery, street farmer market (Tue and Thu), etc

The Villa is convenient located from Bus 67 stop and the Tolbiac metro/subway station. From any of these two option Paris is all yours! Alex recommended us to get a 10 pack ticket for the Subway that are also valid for the bus, the train and the cable car in mont matre. By doing this you save 5 euros and can ride any transportation system one bound.

The room assigned to us was big, clean, comfortable and warm. The service provided by Marie and Alex is a perfect combination of concierge, house keeping, tourist guide, economy travel advisory and cultural guide all at once.

If you wake up before 10:30 am you can get a delicious breakfast. If you don't then Marie or Alex will find something for you.

The other guest at La Villa were quite and friendly. You can exchange plans and tips during the breakfast.

The unique point to highlight are the narrow stairs to gain access to the rooms in the second floor. Big luggage will require some patience and effort but hopefully you need to do this twice (when arriving and leaving)

If you like art, Marie will give you some great tips.

In summary the Villa Paris is a worth investment of your money (price/value). It is away from the noisy turistic paris (Effiel tower, champs Elysees, etc) but in Paris close enough to everything.

I recently spent 5 nights at La Villa Paris, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I've been to Paris several times before and had always stayed in hotels in central Paris; although I enjoyed the easy access to the restaurants, shopping and museum, I always felt that I hadn't seen the real Paris.

So, I was absolutely delighted with my stay at La Villa Paris. It's in a small neighbourhood approximately 2.5 kilometres south of Notre Dame, with two superb boulangeries (bakeries) almost on its doorstep, a small grocery store, a butcher, and some delightful restaurants within a 10 minute walk. As well, there is a small market in the park opposite the B&B twice a week, with stalls offering a wide variety of cheeses, meats, fresh and dried fruit. The people you see walking on the streets or in the park live in the district - and there is nary a tourist in sight!

The B&B is ideally located for quick access to almost any part of Paris: the 67 bus stops across the street and takes about 20 minutes to arrive at the Louvre or, in about 5 minutes, arrives at Place L'Italie, where you can transfer to two metro lines or the RER (suburban raised railway) which allow quick access to almost any place in Paris. The metro is clean and easy to use (and is better and cleaner than the New York and Toronto subway systems).

My room ("La Bastille") was extremely comfortable - a Queen-sized bed, fabulous bathroom, lots of hot water and high water pressure, thick towels (and towel heater), crisp sheets. Although it faced the street and overlooked the park, I never noticed any traffic noise. The electric blinds darkened the room completely, so I slept extremely well. There were two large closets, with plenty of shelves and hangers so there was more than enough space for my clothes and luggage. As well, guests have access to a small kitchen with kettle, fridge and microwave, which makes it easy sample breads, cheeses and wines that you've picked up that day.

However, the best part of my stay at La Villa Paris was Alex. Marie was away on vacation while I was there, and Alex (Marie's assistant) made sure that all of the guests thoroughly enjoyed their stays. She provided us with marvellous breakfasts (fresh fruit salads, fresh croissants and baguettes from the nearby boulangeries, yogourts, jams and jellies, cheese and meat, freshly cooked eggs, tea, coffee and juices), left little treats in our rooms (I particularly enjoyed the mini macarons), and helped plan trips - whether by recommending transportation options, suggesting a museum or garden that I hadn't considered visiting, or providing a list of restaurants that Marie had personally vetted.

In other words, if you're slightly adventurous and want to really experience Paris, I can't think of a better place to stay than at La Villa Paris.

Room Tip: The room on the ground floor ("Opera") is right by the front entryway, so could be a bit n...

Okay, let’s make this easy. La Villa Paris is a B&B; not a hotel with 24/7 service and amenities. If you need a hotel, or want to “do” Paris in a couple of days and see all the sights, get a hotel in the tourist area, sign up for some guided tours, and stop reading this now. However, if you want to “discover” and “experience” Paris at your own pace, La Villa Paris may be ideal for you. That is mostly because of Marie. We stayed there for a total of 10 days on two visits a few days apart and here is our TA contribution:

Marie is (a true goddess and) an art aficionado who, in a totally unremarkable urban area of Paris, has created a tastefully designed and decorated B&B that is wonderfully comfortable and perfectly suited to exploring the city at a leisurely pace. Marie and Alex (her charming and able assistant) personify gracious hospitality and within 24 hours, you will consider La Villa Paris your home (which is what they want) and the neighborhood your neighborhood. You will see Marie and Alex in the morning at breakfast and they will resolve any lodging issues, help you with your French, make transportation recommendations, help with trip planning, or just about anything. Just ask.

Things to know:

• You are not in or near the tourist area of Paris (which, for us, was a blessing). Public transportation options are quick, numerous, nearby, and easy to use. In fact, learning to use the public transportation is the key to enjoying Paris. We live in DC and found it much easier than the DC Metro. It is fast - imagine waiting a max of 2 minutes (up to 4 minutes on a weekend) for a Metro train or less than 6 minutes max for a bus. There is a bus stop 1 minute from the front door with a bus that will take you to Notre Dame or the Louvre in 15-20 minutes. Metro is even faster. Very easy to get to/from CDG airport.

• Breakfast is great - wide variety of food, lots of it, and delicious. We miss it tremendously!

• Rooms are quite large and the beds are large and exceptionally comfortable. Bathrooms are exceptional and the hot water is hot and at a high pressure. Electric blinds totally darken the rooms. Shampoo and small soaps are provided.

• Which room? We stayed in the Champs Elysees room and the Concord room and were very happy in both. The former has a huge bathroom with both a shower and a whirlpool tub (mighty fine after a trans-Atlantic red eye). It is also quieter as it does not face the street. Other rooms face the street and get some street noise, but not at night as the streets are totally deserted at night and it is wonderfully quiet.

• Lots places to eat nearby. Lots! Marie will give you a list. These a local places and we never bumped into another tourist. Best to know some French or have an adventurous appetite. I still dream of a chicken and risotto dish at Le Circus.

• Laundromat and dry cleaners nearby. ATM too.

We can’t compare La Villa Paris to anyplace else in Paris because we have not stayed anyplace else. If/when we go back to Paris, I doubt we would even consider anyplace else…it is that good. Five stars is not enough!
