“Good location, mediocre everything else”
Reviewed March 23, 2011

Located really close to the metro and several cheap eats and crepe stands that are great for those on a budget! Unfortunately, as we were travelling in a school group, our double rooms were transformed into "quads" and there were 4 people crammed into each room.

PROS: staff speaks English, working television and complimentary tea/instant coffee in rooms, location great, stored luggage for our group, free WIFI (required our passport, though)

CONS: no hot water the first night, mediocre breakfast with no fruit, staff not very polite

This place was abosolutely disgusting.

First of all the staff was completely rude, and very sketchy. Me and my boyfriend arrived early in the morning so we had to walk around with our heavy luggage all day until we could check in. Once we had checked in and paid we went up to the room which was horrible, but we wanted something cheap right in the center of paris so we couldn't complain about that.

The only good thing about this place is that the shower worked really good, and that it is in a prime location.

We didn't trust the rude staff so we put all our valuable in our bags are carried them around paris with us for the day ( they tried to make us give them our key as we left.. we refused).

On day of check out we got multiple bangs on the door an hour before check out to tell us to leave, even though we had an hour, then they showed up at our door with guy who was waiting for the room, who was clearly just as uncomfortable as we were. he dropped off his bags and let us get on with packing up our stuff..

As we were leaving they were harassing us to pay.. even though we had paid when we checked in.

This is a negative 1 star hotel.. but hey if you are travelling backpacking or whatever and just need a cheap spot for the night, you should be fine..just have a lock on your stuff I wouldn't trust these people.

We were told to go to Hotel Bastille after being overbooked at a nicer hotel. We figured that it would be comparable to what we originally booked, but when we got there it was not what we expected. The street is practically the Vegas Strip, with all the bars and restaurants you could want, but that made for terrible noise when trying to sleep. If you are going to Paris just to party, this would be an ok place to stay, but if you're going to sightsee, stay somewhere else. The Hotel staff doesn't speak English very well, but they tried. If you ask nicely, they will lock up your luggage for you in the basement after you check out.

The rooms were clean but not nice by any standard. 20 minutes before our check out time, one of the employees banged on our door demanding that we come downstairs and check out early. This was really unsettling. Also, the price was outrageous. We paid a total of 200 euros for 4 people for 2 nights, and it was probably only worth about half that. If you have a choice, don't give these people your business.

To start off, we got there and our rooms were not ready not wanting to wait 2-3 more hrs (because we wanted to start touring) we had to leave our belongings with the staff. They didn't even put them in a locker/closet/ nope they put them in their dining room tables... which formed part of the lobby which seemed to have no real security except for one staff member at a time.

They would not take my credit card so I had to go to an ATM to get money to pay! I have never had to pay in full before staying at a hotel, usually you pay in the morning when you check out but they wanted me to pay in full before even getting into the rooms.

Their multilingual staff could barely speak French ( the people I traveled with could speak english and french just fine so for us to not even understand them is saying something).

We came back and thankfully our belongings were still there... the rooms were a nightmare. While the location is ideal for going out and enjoying bars and clubs it sure makes for a very noisy environment ( we barely got any sleep). The hygiene of the rooms was disgusting (to put it nicely) the sheets and blankets were obviously not clean ( were stained, had hair on them, cigarette burns, smelled bad) , thank god the room was very warm we just slept with our clothes on top of the mattresses; the beds were not at all comfortable. The hotel needs serious remodeling!!!!

No tv remote, the tv did not work ... no lamps...

The location was good and the staff were friendly. That was were it ended, I had to go to the supermarket across the road and buy disinfectant before I would sit on the toilet, I thought I may have a bath but after seing what came off the side's decided against it,. We were put in a large room on the first floor with a window over the street, the curtains were not very thick and the noise was a bit loud but for the 'local experience' factor we could have put up with it. On the second day we were moved to the fifth floor with a pokey little room and a view of the inside gap, and the curtains were netting, We used a bedspread off one of the beds to cover the window just so we could sleep past daylight. All in all at least the Hotel Bastille taught me a very important lesson, next time I will defintely pay a little more and have a better quality bathroom at least. Cheap is REALLY cheap in Paris.

The rooms were kind of decadent, the whole hotel needs many repairs ! no tv remote control, no lamps near the bed, the view from the window was nothing but ... an huge and dirty wall. NO VIEW AT ALL !! no sun, no light, nothing !!. The stuff asked us the money in advance before we could see the room, and when we complained about the room they simply said they had no other rooms ! finally the guy who stays there during the night is really very rude !! Very strange stuff ! we won't come back !!
