This is quite an old hotel but is in reasonably good condition. The staff speak very little English but you can get by with lots of actions and patience. The rooms are large and comfortable. Breakfast was limited but adequate. The location is great, very close to the metro in a nice part of the Latin Quarter. Rates are very good compared to other Paris rip offs. A lovely outlook onto the street from my room but quiet enough to slep at night. A pleasant stay.

Was recommended this hotel by friends. Stayed four nights - rooms cleaned daily & beds made - needs some redecoration but otherwise satisfactory. No complaints for the rate of €80/night for a large double room with WC & over bath shower & overlooking the front street. Great patisserie, restaurants/bistros locally 15mins. walk to N. Dame & 8-10mins. walk to Luxembourg metro station. Bolster supplied on the bed but clean pillows were stored separately.

Location is great near the Jardin du Luxembourg although the RER B Metro is not my favourites.
Price and location made us choose this hotel

It is a family run hotel. Very bad first welcome impression when we arrived, we thought we were bothering them really...
Weirdly we did not have to put down a deposit, card or name (Sounded a bit dodgy to me...). Worse was the bed bugs (bitten all night), room was old and not cleaned the next day either. Shower was downstairs. Breakfast was extremely basic for 5 euros, with that horrible artificial "orange juice".
Sometimes it's good to go for a budget hotel, but frankly a few more Euros would have gone a long way somewhere else... We obviously moved out. This made me ashamed to be French. Don't let this hotel spoilt your stay in beautiful Paris!

I have stayed in Hotel Gay-Lussac several times between 1984 and today, and I will return in the future as well. The hotel is close to everything, and with its low rates, a trip to Paris can be very cheap.

It is a small and old hotel, run by very nice people. Only few of the employees speak English.

I have never experienced the hotel as dirty, just old. I am certain that the furniture, curtains and carpets are still the same as my first visit many years ago. This I consider one of the many charms of Hotel Gay-Lussac.

Can't beat the price on this one! Walking distance to major sites, and train stations. Wonderful restaurants nearby. Our room was small, but comfortable with an in-room WC, sink and shower. Breakfast was good (croissants, breads, jams, coffee, hot chocolate). Daily maid service and personnel were very attentive.

I stumbled on this hotel late at night while trying to find a place to put my bags for the night. We stumbled on this charming hotel sometime after dark, and were quite happy with the outcome.

For young travelers looking for not much more than a bed to crash in this was probably the best place we could have asked for. Good central location, very friendly staff, and some good surprises - the breakfast was a lot more than I expected out of a one star hotel.

Overall, quite a pleasant surprise. Being young and flexible certainly helps in enjoying a place like this - best suited for backpackers and youth overseas on study abroad, au pairs, etc. But overall a great base for exploring all Paris has to offer.

This was a last minute booking but i wish i had stayed in the street instead. This place was filthy and for 80 euros that's expensive dirt.
I stayed there for two nights because frankly I couldn't be bothered moving but really I should have made the effort. For two nights the nasty stains on the bathroom floor remained which proved there had not even been a cursory clean. The shower was dirty as was the loo. The beds seemed clean enough but we were given bolsters instead of pillows. Not nice.
