“Small but perfectly formed”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

We saw a cheap deal in the paper and booked a trip for a pre-Christmas treat, this was the hotel in the offer, we saw the reviews and thought we'd go for it; we weren't disappointed.

OK, so the standard rooms are tiny, if you're traveling with two big bags you'll struggle to get them both into the room comfortably, seriously, that's how small they are!

That really is the only negative, our room was immaculately clean, the shower was great and the service was friendly and helpful. The area was quiet at night, so quiet we could sleep with the window open. Breakfast was pretty much as expected, coffee, croissants and cold cuts, enough to see you through to lunch.

Like everyone has said the hotel is right near the metro. Get off at Daumesnil (on line 8), head to the 'face au 199' exit, turn around and it's right there, easy. From the hotel on the metro you'll be in the city in around 20 minutes, if you want to ride all the way to the Arc de Triomphe, that'll be about 30 minutes.

All in all a good base to explore the city; recommended.

This hotel is a bit off the beaten path, but there's a Metro stop on the doorstep, the neighborhood is pleasant enough, and I think it's good for tourists to get out of the touristy areas once in awhile. Since it is a bit on the periphery of the Metro system, though, it can take awhile to get where you need to be -- this is not a hotel you can plan on coming back to a couple times a day. The staff all spoke excellent English and were exceedingly friendly and helpful. The bakery across the street is outstanding.

If coming by car, access from the highway is easy enough, but finding a place to pull over to drop your passengers and luggage is a bit of a challenge. The parking area recommended by the hotel is in the basement of a Renault repair shop -- it looks sketchy, but the people there were friendly, the rates were reasonable (for Paris), and car was locked safely underground at night.

My only complaint was that the staff were a bit lackadaisical when the fire alarm went off early one morning. It took them awhile to get it shut off, and they didn't make much effort to let people know that it was a false alarm. I'm still giving it an "excellent" rating, though, because it is such a good value for a Paris hotel.

we recently stayed at this hotel, we found the staff friendly and helpful. the rooms clean and a plentiful breakfast buffet. just a few metres from the metro and a quick easy ride into the centre of paris. we were immediatly given a map and advice on things to do and places to eat. the restaurants reccommended were all excellent and within two hundred metres of the hotel.
the staff were patient with my appaling French and responded in perfect English!!!

Over-60 Anglo-French couple fully endorses recent positive reviews after a 3-day stay in mid-November 2012. Cheerful, friendly, proactively helpful staff, without exception (eg, offering to print out a document at no charge when asked about the nearest print shop). Excellent fresh and plentiful buffet breakfast from 7 am onwards. Free no-problem wifi throughout. Accurate and detailed restaurant recommendations. Perfect deceptively 'ordinary' location, not only 1 minute from the metro and full of good independent shops and restaurants, but also blessed by a superb bookstop Atoutlivre (http://www.atoutlivre.com) at 50m that would shame virtually every area in London, and a magnificent traiteur Festins (www.festins.fr) at 75m that outshines anything in London (there are benches in the street outside on which you can scoff its hugely upmarket takeaways - you're not really supposed to do this in the hotel bedrooms), opposite one of the finest unsung churches in Paris (the Eglise du Saint Esprit), a late 1920s creation in reinforced concrete modelled on Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.

Room Tip: All rooms are Paris-small, although no worse, and often better in this respect, than many others in...

This hotel is minutes from the centre by Metro with great connections to all the sights. We walked to Bastille and the surrounding area which was not far. The hotel itself is basic but clean. The staff are so friendly, we asked what we should do on our first day there and the last on reception got us a map and spent time finding out what we wanted to do and highlighted things on the map.
The breakfast was great, only had it one morning but on that day it was late and everything was still available. There is a great bakery a couple of doors down too.
The rooms are clean and have everything you need including free WIFI. I am a light sleeper and did hear the metro going underneath but this didn't bother me.
We picked up a leaflet that was on reception for a river cruise and we booked it. It was really good.
I would book this hotel again and the staff as I said are brilliant!

Room Tip: We had a room on the 2nd floor at the back, it was fine.

We stayed at The Grand Hotel Dore in August for a three night stay. Having seen mixed reviews, I kept an open mind but can honestly say that we had a fabulous stay!

The hotel is situated just a few mins from the Metro and so is perfect for travel throughout Paris, it's location has a very 'suburbian' feel - so expect typically French bistro restaurants, Cafes and bakeries.

The hotel had everything we needed, two comfortable beds, a fridge to chill our drinks, huge windows, air conditioning and a lovely bathroom.

Breakfast was plentiful and although self-service in a very small area, sufficed!

Staff were pleasant and attentive, rooms were clean and well presented.

The Grand Hotel Dore offers excellent value for money and we would return again!

just back from Paris after attending a tough show...
Grand Hotel Dore' is not properly in the middle of the Paris's life but is just 20 meters from Daumesnil metro station so you can easily get everywhere
Hotel is clean and well mantained. The only issue may be narrow rooms but since it's a Paris hotel you've no expectations on that
Breakfast always full of choice, vey nice
I had to personally thank you Geraldine. In my opinion the best customers manager i've ever met in all my trips around the world
Always nice, solved all my problems with a smile...it was a sunshine after a tough day of work
I admit to have been very annoying but she never upset...never ! She was always there to help me in any needs ...A REALLY PIECE OF CAKE !
THANKS GERALDINE !!!!
