So big you don't realize that you are on an island. One of the two islands in the middle of the seine that hosts two of the best sights in paris. Agree with the other review that said Paris Starts Here. When I come to Paris I always visit this little island to view the great sights.

As a visitor to Paris, you'll likely end up visiting Île de la Cité at some point during your stay. This is is one of two natural islands in the River Seine and the place with a long history of civilisation dating back over 2000. It is also the location of some of the most important sightseeing in Paris.

Today, Île de la Cité is where you find the historic Notre Dame Cathedral, St. Chapelle and Conciergerie, the remains of Palais de la Cité - the First Royal Palace in Paris. You'll find impressive statues, small parks, squares and famous bridges such as Pont Neuf and Pont St. Louis which connects the island to Île de la Saint Louis.

There are two remaining islands on the Seine and you can't go to Île de la Cité without also crossing over to e Île Saint-Louis. This is the center of Paris, kilometer zero in fact to measure distances. The three must see sites are none other than: Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle, and the Conciergerie prison. All are drenched in history and symbol all a must see. Saint Chapelle is a gem.
Thanks to moves by recent mayors of Paris the right bank of the Seine has become a pedestrian stroll. It is a gorgeous walk and anytime you like you can walk up to street level cross a bridge and be on the islands. It is ideal for families with or without dogs,

I love this area of Paris on the island in the center of the city. Great small hotels, good bistros, terrific ice cream, Notre Dame, Sainte Chappelle, and the rest of the City is in walking distance. I always stay here.
