Our family of four stayed here for three nights, crammed into a room that would have been ideal size for two people. Nevertheless, it was a great experience. The lobby is spacious and bright, the restaurant is very good, and the location is ideal, perhaps a 30-minute walk from the Seine and its attractions (the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower). Metro stations are also nearby if you don't feel like walking.

The front desk staff were particularly helpful, and there were always enough of them on duty to prevent lineups. They answered all questions patiently and provided valuable advice.

Room Tip: Tip: Check out the top-floor exercise room. The balcony beside it is perfect for reading or loungi...

We are a family of five, two adults and three children ages 11, 13 & 14. We travelled with relatives who have two children ages 10 and 13, so there were nine of us all together. We arrived via the Eurostar at Gare du Nord and had no trouble getting onto the metro. Line 4 takes you all the way to the hotel area with no changes. We got off at Montparnasse Bienvenue and walked underground exiting right next to the hotel. We took the instructions from another trip advisor review and had no trouble finding the hotel although this route does involve a fair few steps to haul the luggage up and down.

Novotel made us very welcome for our three night stay. The lady on the desk was extremely helpful and spoke good English. We were given three rooms next door to each other. Each room had a large double bed and a smaller sofa bed, both of which were very comfortable. We had three to each room but I think you could have two on a sofa bed if needed. The rooms were great, not huge with the sofa bed open but absolutely fine for us, clean with all the basics. The air conditioning kept the room cool and the shower was excellent. We thought the breakfast was perfect. A great selection of hot and cold food. Little sausages, bacon and scrambled egg, pancakes and waffles for those who like cooked food and a big choice of cold food, cereals, croissants, choc au pains, rolls, breads, jams, fruit salads, cheese, yoghurts etc . Freshly squeezed juice and a variety of teas and coffees. The family dining room on floor one was a big hit with children as there was a lovely man making balloon hats and shapes for the children and there were lots of free goodies. One morning we ate very early in the main dining room which was also fine but without the entertainment! The hotel seemed quiet even though it was booked out for the summer holidays, there was never any noise. There were always seats available for breakfast and we barely saw another person on our floor. Our room looked out to the back of the hotel and it was very quiet. However, the front didn’t seem particularly noisy either!
The area suited us fine. It was a bit of a trek from the metro into the main sights. We did walk to the river Seine from the hotel which took about 45mins but it was very hot and we found the metro very convenient. It was easy to use and we walked a lot once in the main areas. Pasteur station was best for getting to the Eiffel tower and Montparnasse Bienvenue metro station took us right into the centre. After a long day of sightseeing and walking we tended to get off the metro at Edgar Quinet where there were plenty of cafes and restaurants for an evening meal. It was only about 5-10 mins walk from the hotel and it always felt safe walking back around ten at night.
We covered all the main sights in two and a half days. The hotel was really helpful and had a room by reception where you can leave your luggage once you have checked out. This freed up a spare morning for more sightseeing. All in all, I would say this is a great hotel in a fairly central location and I would be happy to use it again.

We spent 5 nights (July 25th - 31st) at the Novotel Gare Montparnasse in Paris. The room was clean and of a good size given you are in Paris. It had a large HD TV with HD channels, one double bed and one sofa bed. The beds were really NOT comfotable.

When you check-in, the hotel gives you little gifts for your kids, that is very sweet. They also have an XBOX Kinnect in the lobby for kids to play. It is really nice to see how they think about kids.

The breakfast were included and families can eat on the second floor between 8h00 and 11h00am in a conference room that is setup for breakfast. Forget the service, they don't have enough staff I guess to clean the table fast enough so you end up waiting for a table. You will have to help your self to get your coffee. The choice of food is very limited also for your breakfast. If you are a couple, you will probably want to get your breakfast on the first floor

The location is great once you figure out how to get to the Pasteur metro station which is a few blocks away. The Pasteur metro station is on line 6 which is great because it gets you direct to the Eiffel tower.

Near by the hotel, you will find small restaurants (what is often called "Salon de thé"). To get really great restaurants, I suggest to walk a few more blocks and get to Montparnasse avenue. Just across the street, you will also find the Montparnasse train station, perfect if you plan to go to visit Versaille Casttle by train (round trip was about 17 Euros).

We found the staff to be generally friendly. At the bar in the lobby, Benjamin will treat you as a king. He preppared for me and my wife wine tasting. Laura is also very friendly.

Besides the beds and the breakfast experience we really enjoyed this hotel but I can't rate more than a 3 this hotel because beds are really important for me.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with conmfy beds

First, let me say that the hotel was nicely air conditioned during our recent heat wave here in Paris, so we were thankful to have a cool night here. I also want to comment on how very clean the bathroom was. The staff at the bar were very friendly and helpful, and the food we ate at the bar was fine. The black out drapes were excellent.

However, this star does not have the feel of what we would call a four star hotel in the USA. The decor is much like a motel in the US, and the quality of the carpet and common areas were also at that level. There was no one to help with luggage, and there could be a wait for an elevator. The room was small. The TV was mounted on the wall, up high, not at eye level. That gave the hotel the feel of a Motel Six in my opinion.

If I got the room at the same very low rate, I might take a room here again for convenience, but in all likelihood, I would not stay here again, despite the good points.

We just got back from a week's stay here. We loved it. We liked the somewhat "out of the way" location. The hood is safe and gives you an additional view of Paris. It can be confusing to reach it from the metro. Here is the best way to get there. After taking the RER from the airport, get off at Gare Montparnasse Bienvenue. Follow the signs when you get off the train to the main station. They will have a picture of a train and say all trains. You will go through an automatic metal barrier to exit the metro area. On your right, you will signs for Gare Vaugirard. Follow this down a very long hallway. It will seem empty and desolate. Keep walking in this direction a long way. You will eventually enter Gare Vaugirard, which closes at 11pm. Go up the stairs to the street and exit the door labeled Rue de Cotentin. Look to your left and there it is.

My wife, two kids (11 & 8), and I stayed at the Novotel Gare Montparnasse for 5 nights during a sightseeing trip in June 2012.

Upon making our reservation, we had two main concerns; location and room size.

The Novotel is certainly off the beaten track from a tourist's perspective. If budget wasn't an issue, we would have stayed on Ile Saint-Louis. Nonetheless, the location turned out to be just fine. We enjoyed our ~20 minute walk to the Eiffel Tour that featured some great views. To reach other the other touristy locations, we walked the 6 blocks to the Pasteur Metro station. When our stay was over, the helpful staff gave us detailed directions on how to take the Metro to CDG which took about an hour.

The room was a perfect fit for our family. My wife and I were comfortable in our bed. More importantly, the kids were comfortable in their beds. Our room had two individual pull out beds for the kids. Unlike most pull out beds, the mattresses were firm and the kids slept great. When all beds were pulled out, there was little room to walk. However, this wasn't an issue for us as we didn't spend much time in our room. When we did want extra space, we simple folded up the kid's beds.

The staff was nice and helpful and the hotel was extremely clean. I would definitely stay here again.
