Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile
Ranked #1,223 of 1,803 Hotels in Paris
Reviewed July 17, 2014

We were a family of nine including four children ages 8, 8, 10, and 13. This is the surprise hotel we ended up with after booking a deal online. After reading the TripAdvisor reviews, we were all a bit worried. We contacted the hotel immediately to request non-smoking and renovated rooms. Because of the number of travelers, they accommodated us with three rooms (each room containing a double bed and a rollaway cot). They could guarantee non-smoking but said the renovated rooms would not fit a cot.

If driving, we found a great garage within walking distance from the hotel. This garage was half the price we would of paid had we parked at the hotel garage (we also had two cars). It was a bit nerve racking driving into Paris and navigating the "free-for-all" roundabouts, but we had peace of mind once we were parked safely in the garage. The garage is called Parking Maillot Gouvion booked through Neoparking.

The location of this hotel is VERY convenient. Attached to a nice mall, you can walk straight from the bottom floor of the hotel into the mall and head downstairs to the M1. If you want to catch a quick bite to eat and coffee in the morning, check out Paul's Bakery (located in the mall). We did this each morning with the exception of our last. We decided to enjoy the sit down buffet breakfast at the hotel - offered at half-price before 7:30 (plus, kids eat free). It was huge, had nice seating, the selection great, the service friendly, and a great deal at half-price. We paid outside the breakfast room the morning of and did not have reservations.

Check-in went well (have ALL passports ready to present). The lobby is lovely. They accommodated us with three rooms next to each other (12th floor), each with a view of the Eiffel Tower. The cots were brought up that evening while we were at dinner.

The rooms were fine. Yes, it's outdated (kind of retro though). As expected, and seen in other posts, there were a few bleach spots on the floor and a few scratches on the headboard. However, it wasn't THAT bad. It was clean, we felt comfortable, the bedding was nice (Hyatt standards), and the bathroom nice. We really couldn't complain given the location, price we paid for this location in Paris, and view. Our mornings were early, our evenings late and for the three nights we needed a place to sleep, this was perfect!! Again, it's not that bad.

We did not check out the bar and we did not use the fitness center. Free Wi-fi worked great!

Happy travels!

The room was in poor outdated condition. Tears in the carpet, drapes that wouldn't close, not even 1 picture on the wall. This was disappointing for being our first trip to Paris. The location was decent and the staff was wonderful. The metro is located in the mall that connects to the hotel. The hotel bar located on the 37th floor was amazing. The view was incredible of the eiffel tower. Re think this hotel and look for a place located on St. Germaine St. which is absolutely fabulous.

Room Tip: the rooms are very tiny and are not nice at all

My room had a great view of the Eiffel Tower that would have been of greater value if I hadn't traveled to Paris solo :)

The lobby reminded me of hotels in Vegas (big and busy). However, the best feature of the hotel was the bar (Bar La Vue) at one of the top floors of the hotel. It has a great view of the Eiffel Tower and I recommend it to any couple visiting Paris.

I stayed at the Hyatt hotel in January as a surprise present from my partner for my 21st birthday. We were there for a total of 3 nights and four days and loved every minute of it! We were given an upgraded room, although the room appeared standard the upgrade was so we had a view of the tower! Which was so amazing! We could see the tower just from lying in our beds & I am a lover of a good view so I appreciated this a lot! Room and bathroom were clean, nice large bed, wifi & very hot water in the bathroom (another thing I appreciate!)

Shops are within walking distance, the hotel itself has a shopping centre right behind it, all you have to do is walk through the hotel! The metro is also in this area too, so was easy to get to places we wanted to see. Staff were extremely helpful explaining anything we wanted to know too so we never struggled to find anything. They also provided us with a map of the area so we could find things easier.

On the very top floor they have a fabulous bar and beautiful seating area which overlooks everything & offers a spectacular view of the tower. The atmosphere in there is just great, great music in the evening but peaceful in the day. We went up several times during the day and once at night as the atmosphere is just great! Cannot fault the service however the drinks are ridiculously overpriced!

Overall we had a wonderful stay at the hotel & I would love to return in the future.

When I walked into my room, my jaw dropped. I have not seen a hotel room this old and outdated since I was a traveler in Eastern Europe right after the Wall came down. The decor looks out of the 1960's, and had not been updated since. A plus is the staff is very friendly, but that doesn't compensate for the outdated, tired, almost shoddy room conditions. I should have booked the Ibis. It would have been half price, and would have had furnishings at least younger than I am.

We spent 5 frustrating nights at this hotel and would have left if we had not paid in advance and could not get a refund. Extremely over priced. One problem after another: The first few days we had constant wifi problems, no tech support, and all the staff could say was "come to the business office to use the computer" but the wifi there was no better and the tiny room was crowded with other guests experiencing similar problems. (After 2 days the wifi was fine.)

Our 6 am wake up call never came, so do not rely on them.

The room was small and cramped, with cheap furniture and a thermostat that did not work. The towel and soap stock for our bathroom was different every day and one day the maid took our personal washcloth. The bathroom had no towel racks and the magnifying mirror was on a spring that could not be adjusted. The tub is quite deep and there is no handle for stepping into the tub to take a shower, so travelers with balance problems beware. The glass doors on the bathroom do not close properly and there was no privacy.

Forget the concierge service. One seemed offended when we did not understand his street directions and another was quite impatient when we asked about bus service to the airport (one plus is that the Air France airport bus is nearby.) When we called from our room about a taxi, we were told no problem, come on down, and when we got there, we found a line of persons waiting for a taxi and were told we needed a reservation!

Printing our boarding passes in the business office took 30 minutes because the printer was not working properly and there were several others experiencing the same problem. Eventually we all had to use the clerk's computer, which is the only one that was working.

The breakfast dining room was a zoo, with tables of food scattered across the room in a disorganized manner. For example, the spoons, cereal, and milk were on 3 different tables making breakfast a scavenger hunt.

By the way, this hotel is technically outside of Paris, which is why it could be 34 stories tall (Paris buildings are limited to 8 stories), but it is close to a metro and RER station, so pretty easy to get to the tourist sites. There is an adjacent shopping center, but the exception of the food market, the prices are high even for Paris. Disappointed that the Hyatt name is linked to this facility. Never coming back.

Room Tip: Rooms facing south have a view of the Eiffel Tower, but we will never stay here again.
