Centrally located hotel in the heart of the bustling Bastille. Outside of the building was a little disappointing although some renovation work was taking place on the premises below my room whilst I was there. Very pleasant staff with good command of English language. Room was spotlessly clean, and although fairly small, (even by Paris standards) it was however adequate, met most requirements and was very competitively priced. Was not usually serviced until late afternoon. The wardrobe was a shelved area in an alcove. On arrival, there were no coathangers on the rails and there was no remote control for the TV. However on requesting these from Reception , they were promptly delivered. Only downside was that website advertised individual room safes. My room had none, but when I enquired I was told they were only in double rooms and i had booked a single and there was not a safe deposit box at Reception where I could leave valuables. (I suggested this should be made clear on the website). I therefore had to keep them in my locked suitcase, which was not ideal. I did not take breakfast at the hotel as it was fairly expensive and there are a few cafes nearby providing a breakfast for half the price.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel are quiter whereas the front and side lead on to streets around Basti...

Never again!! If you like something that you cannot literally swing a cat (excuse the pun) in then go ahead. We arrived with ease after using the Eurostar (great journey) and jumped into a taxi to the hotel. The taxi couldn't get down the road to the hotel as there was a skip lorry blocking the road so we had to walk. At this stage we weren't too alarmed, things like this happen. As we got closer and closer to the hotel we were beginning to realise that this wasn't a luxury hotel in the Bastille region but a poxy little back street B&B with no oooohhhhh la la!!! Reception were very friendly letting us book in early. We got in the lift to the 3rd floor (it was difficult to get a suitcase, one piece of hand luggage and 2 adults in, in fact it was bordering ridiculous). The corridors to the rooms were very narrow and full of dirty linen left outside previous occupants rooms. For all we know they probably booked out early. Now, the room..... hmmmmm!!! very very very disappointing indeed. It was the teeniest room I have ever seen. It was clean but compact. The wardrobe could only accommodate 3 or 4 items with no-where to place things as there were no drawers. The air-con didn't work at all and the shower leaked all over the floor. There was however, a big flat screen TV, but we couldn't get any channels on it, but it did look nice. There was nowhere to place the suitcases so they lived at the end of the bed. Now breakfast was an experience, we walked up one flight of stairs to what all I can describe as a DIY on a budget experience. Service was second to none, sorry, None, there wasn't any. Cook your own boiled eggs, once you found out where to get water from. The whole experience was weird, definitely not luxury or even stretching to nice!! Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse the location was absolutely dire, The hotel is situated within the street beggar capital of Paris. Rooms are located above a very noisy bar, however, you could still get a drink at 3.30am by shouting out of the window. Overall, I would not visit this so called hotel again, because when you visit a wonderful city like Paris, somehow, you expect more. Well I did anyway.

Room Tip: Sorry, but I don't have any good points about this hotel

Dear Guests,

Thank you for sharing with us your opinion about Standard Hotel even if we regret your opinion is negative.

We are sincerely sorry that our services did not meet your expectations and we apologize for the inconvenience.

We have never pretended to be a luxury hotel but a nice, friendly and comfortable 3* hotel located in a very lively area. Bastille is one of the various facets of Paris.

Your satisfaction is always important to us and your comments are very helpful in order to improve our services.

I went to Paris this part spring with my fiance, and we stayed in the Standard Design for 2 weeks. It was a really good price, compared to some other hotels that are much closer to main attractions. But we really enjoyed the hotel.
It was small, same with the rooms, but that's normal for Europe. The people who worked there were extremely polite and helpful, answered all our questions and helped us with directions, and they spoke awesome English. The deco there is really cool! The rooms were all modern looking, very pretty (black and white with bright colors) and the bathrooms were decent size and very clean. We had a nice view too.
We're a young couple, so we were completely fine with walking everywhere (which we did), so if you're older, you may want to stay closer to the River or near the main attractions.
We were about a 15 minute walk away from Notre Dame, and about a 5 minute walk from River Seine, so we were completely happy with the location. If you're in Europe, you want to walk everywhere anyway!
The street our hotel was on was full of cafes, bars, and restaurants, which was great. Be careful at night though, as it's not the "nicest" area in Paris, but being safe at night is obvious anywhere you go.
All in all, the Standard Design Hotel is very nice, great price, and we would stay there again if we do go back to Paris.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter

Paris - a Capital city - so you cannot expect the large luxury bedrooms you find elsewhere. Having stayed in Paris on 4 previous occasions I was aware that this was always going to be difficult to find somewhere nice but not too pricey. This was our third year wedding anniversary so we were looking for something nice. My last three stays have been on work in a 2 star hotel. I was looking for something better but not much more expensive.....
This place was fantastic. It is modern and stylish and because everything is fairly new it looks and feels so much better and cleaner than other hotels of similar quality.
The desk staff were always helpful and even booked a table for us when requested. They also held our bags on check-out day because our train home was much later that day.
The room was a good size for two people and the bathroom had a fantastic shower (which is always a big plus). It had Air Con which was a huge bonus as the weather was fantastic and very very hot.
The location is great. A 5 minute walked from the Bastille Metro Stop which has 3 Metro Lines. 1 of these goes direct to Gare du Nord and the other direct to the Louvre, Champs-Elyses and Les Halles. On the road to the station was a lovely Creperie and also a nice Patiserie. For those a little less cultured there was also a Starbucks and a Subway!! hehe
I would definately stay here again.
The only downside for me was that it is located very close to a church and at 8:10am the bells went a little crazy - presumably to signify the start of a Mass. They also went off every every hour from 7am. Now generally on a city break you would be up early to start your sightseeing so this isn't a huge problem, but in an ideal world the bells wouldn't ring!
I hope the bells would not put you off booking this because there are far worse places to stay in terms or noise/conditions/location/value for money etc. As I said I would stay here again for sure.

On another note: the Eiffel Tower only has 1 lift working to the second level and the queues were suggesting a 3 hour wait! Tip: either pre-book tickets or walk to the Second Floor and then get the lift to the top (10euros each). We took the second option and thought it was brilliant. Great value and exercise and saves the queues!!
Also would recommend the Museum Pass because it allows you to jump queues and if you visit 3 places is worth the money easily.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for one away from the main road side (rue de roquette) where the church is?

In true style this is the epitome of European sized boutique hotel rooms - small, tight, compact.

The hotel was extremely funky, from the lamp shapes to the coloured curtains.

The room was compact - very clean, comfortable, and has everything we needed. Apart from a bit more space.

A great hotel in the heart of Bastille - walking distance from great bars, restaurants, cafes. About 5 mins brisk walk from Bastille Metro - which we used often.

I would recommend this hotel for couples or singles. It is a bit tight for 2 friends for more than a few nights - but it worked well for us.

Staff were accommodating and straight to the point. No special mention though.

Paris is a nice getaway along with a very nice little hotel that is very clean and close to many amenities. It is close to Place Bastille and the bastille metro/subway which allows you to go to anywhere or all tourist attraction in Paris. The hotel is close to alot of places to eat and bars, in a lively neighbourhood. We enjoy the hotel even though the room is small but it has a separate bathroom. Very clean room and very comfy beds. The day staff is very nice and helpful but night staff is just ok.

Room Tip: Clean Rooms, separate bathroom, and close to most amenities and places to eat. 5 mins from Metro/sub...

This hotel was located in the Bastille District about a 5 minute walk from the Bastille Metro. There were tons of restaurants, bars, bakeries, shopping, etc. steps away from the hotel. It was a great starting point for strolling through the streets of Paris!

The hotel staff was SO FRIENDLY, HELPFUL, and WONDERFUL!

The room was spacious by European standards, the bathroom was very nice, and everything was extremely clean. I will definitely stay here again!

The only drawback was that the walls are a bit thin- earplugs corrected this:)
