We recently spent 5 nights here and our initial apprehension following an advance booking was dispelled the instant we walked into the front door.

The day receptionist was lovely as were all the other staff that followed, without exception.

The hotel is old and the room was small however all was clean and most things worked. The windows facing Gare d'lEst are double-glazed and keep all road noise out. This may be a problem in summer as the room is not air-conditioned but in September 2013 it was fine.

Breakfasts are standard Euro-fare ie. bread rolls, jam, coffee but cereal and yoghurt and fruit are welcome additions.

The oly other shortcomings ar the lack of a hair dryer and the room safe did not work (flat battery?).

But at this price one can't complain, especially as it is right next to transport.

Room Tip: Pick a back room in summer as Gare d'lEst is noisy on the street.

we stayed here for 5 days early September 2013.good room at back of hotel on 5th floor which was quiet.Had cool air fan on as very warm in room and outside.ideal location for getting about Paris.Room was kept clean, breakfast was continental only but tasty, staff friendly and helpful, lift small only suitable for two people at a time.Plenty of nearby cafes and restaurants of every taste.

Room Tip: rooms at front may have street view but rooms at rear of hotel are quieter for good sleep.if any pro...

The Amiot Hotel is a good clean basic hotel well placed in Paris. Being only across the road from the Gare de L'est and next door to the metro station getting into and around Paris is a charm. Plenty of restaurants around make it easy to get a feed and the open tour bus stops just around the corner.
The rooms are clean and of an average size for Paris. The breakfast is basic but sufficient. All in all good valus for money

During our past visits to Europe over 2 years, this hotel is probably the worst we have been in. There is no air conditioning and you have to have your windows open and then be the subject of all sounds (including sex) coming from other rooms. The lift is barely able to hold 2 people and a bag. The hotel directory says there are 4 TV channels in English but only CNN works and when we complained, the receptionist said it wasn't the hotel's fault. My wife's hair dryer blew up because of a faulty power outlet in the bathroom and again the receptionist was not interested. The only thing going for the hotel in our opinion was that the room was reasonably clean and close to the rail station

Room Tip: Don't stay here

I liked the decor of the room but we were in Paris during the heat wave and the room had no fan. We simply couldn't sleep. The staff were polite but not at all friendly or helpful. When we checked in, we were informed that breakfast would be an extra cost. Only when we returned home did I find out that breakfast should have been included . I was also concerned that the luggage deposit area is not in a secure place. Anyone from off the street could access it if the person on the front desk was busy or distracted. This area of Paris is quite seedy, with lots of beggars, although it is handy to Gare de l'Est and Gare du Nord. We would not stay here again.

Hotel was wonderful. We were on the sixth floor with a great view. The room was large and the four twin beds gave it kind of a slumber party feel for our family's last night in Paris. The kids were impressed with the bidet. Breakfast was wonderful with bread and the most amazing hot chocolate. I would recommend getting there early if you don't want to wait though, as the dining room was quite small. The hotel had an old Paris kind of feel, and the staff were quite helpful. Unfortunately, the neighborhood is pretty sketchy. My husband had his wallet taken at the metro station right next to the hotel. Whenever we walked through the neighborhood, I felt kind of like we were being sized up by the many shady characters hanging around. I wish we had taken a taxi to the airport from the hotel, as we could have avoided the pickpocket incident. Next time I'd probably stay somewhere different, especially with kids, even though the hotel was great and is close to all the tourist sites.

This is not a fancy hotel but it is located in my favorite area of Paris, it is almost on top of the Gare de l'Est metro which is on three metro routes (get a good map of the metro first, it is much harder to navigate than the London Underground or New York subway; buy a tourist ticket at a major metro station or before travelling on Eurostar, it will save standing in line (queueing) every time you use the metro). Wifi is FREE, hurray! The room I stayed in (both times() was small but adequate. Breakfasts are quite generous by French standards. The only snag is the elevator (lift), tiny and a bit frightening and just one for the whole hotel. What happens if it breaks down, I dread to think! The area is one of my favorites, delicious Alsatian food in the local restaurants and there is an amazing indoor market, the Marché Saint-Quentin almost opposite. Delicious food in the market, including a fabulous Moroccan restaurant at knockdown prices.

Room Tip: Higher floors desirable, best to ask for a room NOT overlooking a dark well between buildings.
