Dangerous & Unsafe
I had read the previous reviews about this hotel being in a dodgy area and had decided that living in London I was pretty streetwise and not easily put off a cheap hotel. However, even that could not prepare me for what I experienced! The streets around this area are littered with homeless people with alcohol problems and as such you cannot avoid the stench of urine EVERYWHERE. There were 3 of us in our group, all girls. One morning we were woken by a man below our window, at the front door of the hotel screaming at the hotel owner, he was drunk and would not move away from the hotel, so the police were called. There were always prostitutes outside the window loitering around and their male counterparts and clients always coming and going, they tried to approach us a number of times as we left or returned to the hotel. Even in a group of 3, as females we were vulnerable.
The hotel location was close to subways and therefore this made it easy to travel around Paris. Despite the dirty, unsafe location there were a few nice restaurants and cafes along the main road - if you don’t mind walking through urine in our nice shoes and avoiding crazy people in the evenings!! There was also a supermarket nearby for snacks etc.
The Room & Hotel in General
The room was very small, the bed was not particularly comfortable, the bathroom was surprisingly ok and fairly clean. The hotel was noisy, the walls between rooms are very thin and the banging of doors travels. The hotel has 24 hour security (which is greatly needed!) and you have to ring the door bell to be let in – not great at 11pm standing on the doorstep of the hotel waiting for the door to be opened surrounded by undesirable characters in the dark!
Hotel Ripped Us Off!
Whatever you do – DO NOT USE THEIR TAXI recommendation for the airport! The hotel make out it’s a private taxi that will pick you up, however in actual fact it is a very expensive airport Shuttle service, that the hotel take a BIG cut from!!! Sadly we fell for this – we asked to be picked up at a particular time, only to discover that the time was changed to a later time without us being informed, (presumably because it suited the shuttle service better!!!) on top of this the shuttle could not find the hotel (?!?) and therefore turned up late. This meant that we were literally minutes away from missing our flight as the shuttle still had people to pick up around Paris before heading for the airport. Had we been informed by the hotel that the Taxi service was actually a shuttle….we would have allowed more time to be added on! The hotel don’t tell you this because they are taking a cut of the money and therefore it is not in their interest to put people off or to be honest about the service.
In reality – had we been made aware it was a shuttle service, we would have hailed a taxi (as there were three of us and the shuttle charged 17 euro per person it would have been cheaper, more comfortable and more time effective to get a taxi from the street).
If you value your safety and will be returning to the hotel after dark some nights….don’t stay here.
