Between 1965 and 1969 I rented a room in hotel de champ de mars on the street rue de champ de mars a few times. I was a young hitchhiker from Sweden and I could seldom afford to live in a hotel. But this hotel was very cheap, 4 francs per night, which was less than one dollar then and is 0.40 euro in the currency of today. The owners of the hotel was an older couple, I got the impression that they were from Spain. I was very satisfied with the low price, the friendly owners and the location close to the Eiffel tower. I am happy to find that it still exists though it has probably gone through more than one renovation and change of ownership. Roger Johansson

Hotel du Champ de Mars was a home away from home for us during our recent stay in Paris. This was THE PERFECT location to see the sights, but still get a feel for real life in Paris. There were bakeries, cheese shops, wine stores, and chocolate shops all around and a great street market on Sunday!

The rooms were on the smaller side, but nothing I have not seen in NYC. They were clean, well appointed, and cozy. We had a view of the Eiffel Tower from our window. There is no AC, but on our stay in warm May we were ok with the fan they provided (we didnt even have to ask)!

I was nervous upon going based on some reviews about the staff, however everyone we encountered over the 5 nights we were there was nothing but friendly and helpful. Being polite and greeting or thanking in French didnt hurt! I think they must get bombarded with Americans following the Rick Steves trail. I saw no less than three couples carrying the book around in the lobby. You do have to book early and be patient. They take a little longer to get back to you, but its worth the wait.

We were in Paris for 8 nights and found this hotel after staying in the Grand Hotel Leveque for the first 2 nights and being disappointed. The owners (a couple) were gracious and the staff helpful. Speaking french goes a long way with the staff. The location of the hotel is fantastic, you're within walking distance of many attractions and the neighbourhood has a great pedestrian market street (rue cler). The hotel is quaint, clean, and the rooms are tastefully decorated. As there many decent cafes and patisseries in the area, don't bother having breakfast in the hotel's basement dining room. There is also a small supermarket a few doors away. This hotel is a gem - good value for your money.

This was a lovely quaint hotel and the staff were very helpful. I especially liked the reception area with its cute little chairs and books of history of the area in Paris. The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The location was fantastic!!!!!! So close to Eiffel Tower and lovely restaurants. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you for a wonderful stay and being very helpful!

We stayed at the Hotel du Camp de Mars in April of 2010 for 3 nights. It was cozy, comfortable, affordable and after our travels over the city I don't think we could have chosen a more ideal place to be "homebase!"

Our room was sunny yellow with a small but very clean bathroom. Big windows opened up to a courtyard far below. Furnishings and linens were wonderful. The breakfast served in the dining room or inroom was a definite treat. Our best cups of coffee were at the hotel at breakfast time. french roast ~ delicious.

We loved exiting our hotel and being near the Rue Cler cafes with the locals crowded into tables and the hum (literal hum!) of conversation was alive and flavorful. Our walk to the eiffel tower either in the morning or evening was just enough to make you feel like you took covered a little distance; but not long at all, to the point where you feel over extended, even if you've already had a full day of walking.

The cafes at Rue Cler and right across from the hotel, fantastic! Had great soup du jour, omlettes, ravioli, wine, salads. It was SO good.

We think you'll love this location!

Stayed here twice in Spring 2010. Stayed in first room for two nights in Mid May -- room was very small but clean. Returned the end of May for four nights - different room- much larger and a bathroom we could actually fit in. Again - very clean. I read reviews that the staff were often rude, but we never encountered that. (try a bit of French and everyone seems to warm up a bit)., Pretty central location and good access to both buses and Metro ( a few short blocks) Clientele in the hotel, the Rue Cler area, and restaurants, is pretty touristy (especial Americans due to the Rick Steves books and reviews), but I think it is a big challenge to try to find non-touristy places. The Rue Cler area is very nice, good restaurants, neat market. Breakfast is good (8 Euros each) but in a windowless basement (nice decor but still...),. Go across the street and sit outside at Cafe Marche or grab something at the boulangerie on the corner. All in all a good stay and we would recommend it. .

Love the Rue Cler location. I've stayed at this hotel as long ago as 12 years and find it one of the settings I'm happy to repeat. Pricing well matched to the accommodations and amenities. Laptop available to check out. Stairs could be a challenge for some, but not problematic for anyone able to walk Paris. Never use the breakfast as I love the Cafe du Marche next door and other cafe experiences.
