There is no elevator! Only one stairway to hell! If there would be a fire... there's no way out!
The staff was friendly... But I was really dissapointed with the room...The room was filthy although we had clean sheets & towels! Also you have to climb 5 floors to reach this dump! And go 3 floors down to take a shower! You'll never see me back here! And I am really not that demanding!

Hotel Marclau is charming. At 75 euros a night, it's cheap for Paris, and you get a welcome reception, good night's rest, and delicious breakfast. It's great value. The room's are small and decor lacking, but it's clean. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms (ask front desk for Network Security Key). Located close to the Metro Station and the surrounding neighbourhood is safe. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Only some of the rooms include an in-suite washroom. Otherwise there is a WC and toilette in the ha...

Overall it was an okay experience. Here are some facts:
1) They do NOT speak english AT ALL. So if you have a sort of complicated question you'd better find a translator.
2) The place is OLD with whatever comes with old!
3)** If you have big luggage, you are in trouble. The rooms are located upstairs and the stairs are narrow and small in spiral form. NO ELEVATOR.
4) There is only 1 shared shower in the whole hotel.
5) Shower was not clean and its walls looked like they never got perfectly cleaned (old stains).
6) Beds were clean

If you are looking for an inexpensive, no-frills place to stay in Paris then look no further. The Hotel seems to have last been remodelled in the early 70's, and very little has been done since, so we are not talking about deluxe accommodations. But the rooms are clean, same goes for towels and sheets. The hotel is a very location for exploring Paris; right in the middle of the 9th and 10th arrondissements and just a block away from a subway station. Good service, family owned and operated, with free wifi included too.

Very near the metro and gare du nord; polite and helpful customer service, safe. No frills at all, might be a bit shabby for those looking for ambience. But For 42 euros per night, for my own room with just a sink, its an excellent choice for tourists on a budget who will anyway spend

We went to Paris for vacations, this hotel is very near to gare du L'est & Nord ( 10 mins by walk). The best thing I liked is cleanliness, they changed the Towels every day, we found that the bed/room was tidy every day when we returned in the evenings. It's noisy in the mornings due to some construction work, Bathroom was inconvenient but I don't mind for it. Breakfast was OK, but it's included in your stay.

The staff was humble and ready to help, altogether No frills but good value for money.

Stayed for 3 nights in November 2010. Found this place through Tripadvisor search. Everything is very basic but clean. I was traveling solo and paid 60 Euros / night. Room had a shower and basic furniture. It's a small family owned place with very helpful and customer friendly folks. In fact they printed out some stuff I needed ( I had emailed to them). If you are traveling with a friend or solo, this is a perfect place for the money. However, if you are in Paris on a romantic getaway you might be disappointed. For me, money and location were the top two factors and I was not disappointed. After sightseeing for most of the day - this is an ideal location to retire and crash for the night.
