“Nice decor & friendly”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

The hotel is located in Le Marais, a vibrant neighbourhood with charming boutiques and nice restaurants (L'Ange 20) that isn't too crowded with tourists (yet). There are two underground stations at less than 500m from the hotel, so you can easily visit the tipical tourist attractions as well.

I personally loved the design of the hotel. It is lavish and over-the-top. Although the lobby is small (after all it is a small boutique hotel with only 17 rooms), it is lavishly decorated. We had the (only) ground floor room. At first we were concerned that it would become noisy at night, but this was absolutely not the case. To Parisian standards I found the room quite big with plenty of closet space, a large desk and two chairs and still room to walk around. The bathroom could comfortably fit two people and had a nice bath tub to soak in after a day walking through Paris. I know that some people mind not having a separate shower or at least a curtain, but I don't mind.

The breakfast was plenty and good (to French standards): freshly squeezed orange juice, strong dark coffee or a cappuccino, a bowl of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, a basket of bread (baguette), croissants and brioches, a selection of jams, some cheese (although it was individually packed industrial cheese instead of artisanal) and a table with cereals and dried fruits.

The receptionists and - especialy - the ladies in the breakfast room were all extremely friendly.

I will certainly be back.

I stayed here back in August and stayed in their "middle priced" room, which was still $250/Euro per night with a discount promotion in effect (saving $50/Euro per night).

First the good stuff - the room was well proportioned and it was a corner unit with very nice street views, great light & quiet. The bed was large and very comfortable and same for the bath.... although it was a hand held wand over a soaking tub. "quaint" for about a day, but over the course of 7 days, it was sort of a pain and didn't make for a great shower. Also, there was no glass retainer wall, so the entire bathroom would invariably get soaked when in use.

So the room was fine enough, the Wifi was consitent and there was adequate closet space.

The room key was absolutely ridiculous - it was one of those "old fashioned" keys with an odd looking key cut and it was both large & heavy.....a total pain to take along with you during the day. Even worse, you had to "lock yourself into the room" with the key to have a locked door. Just one of those bad ideas (like the shower wand) that makes you wonder about the planning process here. Also, little things in the room were shoddy - be it drywall spackle spot or slightly peeling wall paper..... it just looked unfinished.

My least favorite part of the stay though was the staff - typical French indifference. They barely made themselves available for even the most basic kinds of help or assistance. The hotel itself only has a small breakfast space (extra $) and no other amenities.

Great location in the Marais though and the hotel no withstanding, I love going to Paris.

Room Tip: Check out Hotel Duo, which was my first choice for a Marais location or Airbnb for a quality apartme...

Dear Winston, I am sorry you had a few problmes during your stay in August although thankyou for some kind comments. Some of the staff were not our permanent staff in august as some were away on holiday, although this is not an excuse. The key is an issue that we have had before but the whole idea of the hotel is to get away from the standard large group hotels and to be like an early century hotel with reel keys and locks, either you like or don't, I am sorry you did not. I am happy you enjoyed the location as the hotel was designed to fit in the oldest part of Paris.

This hotel is super funky.. we had the pleasure of being in the hot pink/black and white room, which is definitely tiny, but that is to be expected so it was no surprise, large enough to have two club chairs and a bed, with a wee bit of walking around space. The fact that it is in the neighborhood of Le Marais was a major plus.. it's not the touristy areas at all, more upscale design-y neighborhood of Parisians.. seemed to be quite a bit of interior design stores all around the area, and very nice cafes.. also super close to the Picasso Museum. Easy walk to Notre Dame etc.. where many tourists stay south of the seine, this is just as close to everything only on the Northern end. We would definitely stay here again.. I think it may be more suited for couples or business and definitely solo travelers, but I did like the fact that we had our son and we were not in a "normal" hotel, this hotel is HIgh Style and really fun and really expands your world of what a hotel room can look like..

Hello Firefly, many thanks for the lovely comments and I think you realy did get the jist of the hotel and it's neighbourhood. We wanted to do a funky hotel but in a very french fashion. The area is exactly like you describe, very french, arty and fashion. You must be a seasoned traveler!
Come back soon.
My best wishes to you for 2013.
Tim.

Le Hotel du Petit Moulon is a delightful little hotel located in the heart of the Marais, one of Paris' coolest and most central districts.
Perfect for a romantic weekend away, my girlfriend took me here for my birthday, and it was perfect. A gorgeous little hotel within walking distance of mnay of the main sites of Paris - what more could you want!!
If I had to be picky, I would say the rooms were a bit cramped, a feeling probably exxagerrated by the fur covered walls, but I'm sure this is the pay-off for such a central location.

Would certainly stay again!

All the staff were great and the hotel is full of character. It's also in a superb location - Marais is brilliant for exploring, especially on a Sunday.

But the things that make the hotel so fantastic are also the things that some people won't like: the interior design is going to be love or hate for most people; there's no shower in the bathroom; aside from a small bar/eating area there aren't really any hotel facilities; and Marais doesn't have any 'obvious' tourist attractions.

But we loved it. If you're looking for something a bit different then you will too.

Hello Alordo, and many thanks for taking the time to write to us. I am glad you enjoyed the hotel despite not having a shower but a bathtub, our rooms have either one or the other. Your quite write about the decoration which is by Chrstian Lacroix, famous for his outrageous french cloths. We think it's evry french and goes well with area where the hotel is situated in one of the oldest parts of Paris. Lastely many thanks for the kind words about the staff, we all try our best to be helpful in a beautiful but very busy city.

It's not easy finding a well located hotel in Paris that has charm but doesn't cost a fortune. So we were delighted with the Hotel du Petit Moulin which is a great spot in the Upper Marais. Decorated by Christian Lacroix each room is different and ours was beautifully opulent. The room wasn't large, but was big enough and had large windows opening on two sides of the room and the bathroom was lovely. We'll definitely be going back again.

Very beautifully decorated, rooms wildly coloured and bohemian. Large comfortable bed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast room becomes an honesty bar at night and pretty quiet. Lovely reception and great location with lot of bars, restaurants and high end shops and galleries all within a few minutes. No overhead shower in our room which was probably only negative point. No restaurant in hotel but nice room service menu and restaurants are plentiful and nearby. Would definitely visit again.
