Best Western Villa Des Artistes

Reviewed January 11, 2013

Had a wonderful 5 days stay at Villa des artistes. Staff were very helpful, tips on sight visits, train rides, taxi strikes. Breakfast was good, the Nespresso machine serve reliable coffee every morning. Really like the location, very closets Vavin station, and a history of artists staying in the same street. Recommended.

We only stayed 2 days, since we would be joining a river cruise. We arrived 3 hours before check in, but were able to leave our luggage at the hotel so we could start seeing Paris. We were greeted by a very pleasing desk clerk. She labeled our suitcases and they were taken into the lounge. When we returned, we were given our key and our luggage was already in the room. The room faced the courtyard. It was a very quiet room. THe room it self was a comfortable size, and it was clean. The bathroom had a bath tub, that was hard to get into to use the shower. The tub itself was very difficult to get into as I am no spring chicken, and the tub was at least 30" high. I would recommend this hotel. The breakfast buffet was adequate. It had fresh fruit, very good sweet rolls, coffee, orange juice and several dry cereals. It is in the 6th direct. It is part of the Best Western chain.

Those of you who know the difficulty of finding good tourist hotels in Paris will appreciate this one. It´s close to the sites, if you don´t mind walking a little, with (small) but newly decorated rooms. Public transport is available nearby, so Paris is close at hand. One of the many advantages are the number of (good) restaurants nearby, there must be more than twenty plus within five minutes on foot, most of them worthwhile of your attention.
One small issue: While I was sitting in the lobby, I was forced to listen to a "meeting" of the staff complaining about clients. While I might have agreed with some of the things they were saying, I would question the discretion of talking at reception while guests are close ...

Room Tip: The facade is currently being renovated, but no noise while we were ther.

Villa des Artistes is a fantastic location in Montparnasse--steps away from the Vavin metro station and a quick walk to Edgar Quinet and Notre Dame des Champs, which makes it very easy to get to multiple lines and arrondissements. There are several great boulangeries in the area and a Monoprix not far for basics like water and wine! (When in Paris...) The rooms are small but clean. We were able to request an electric kettle the first day and keep it for our stay, which was very helpful. The only issue we had was with the WiFi. We couldn't access it in our room and could access it in the lobby only 60% of the time. But all in all, this was a perfectly fine hotel and a great deal for Paris!

Stayed here for a long weekend at the beginning of November - very well located close to Metro station and nearby local restaurants and cafe options. Only 20-30 mins transfer time on the metro from Eurostar to Hotel. Luxembourg gardens waking distance away and friendly helpful staff to help point you in the right direction if needed. Clean/chic style rooms - small but well accommodating, everything you need for a short stay in Paris - we had an Arty Room, well decorated and quiet in the evening for a good nights sleep... Nice shower too! :)

This hotel is only minutes from the metro station Vivan which is on the line to the gard de Nord, about 30 minutes away. The surrounding area has a good number and choice of restaurants as well as a supermarket, and shops for meat, fish, cheese and bread. The Arty room we had was small but newly decorated and fitted. You have to ask if you want a free tea/coffe tray in your room. Free digital safe in the room.We did not have breakfast (16euros) so cannot comment on it.
Staff were helpful. When checking out (by 12 oclock) you can leave your baggage in the hotel untill 7pm.
Our friends paid for a larger room with a bigger bed, but it was not that much bigger than ours. If you require a larger bed, then ok, but if you are looking for mores space in the room I would save my money.
I was sceptical because it was a Best Western Hotel and some I have stayed in before have not been good. This was not true of this one. It was very good.

My wife and I stayed here recently in Oct 2012 for vacation. The location is excellent as you are a short walk to the Vavin station (4 line). It is also walking distance to many restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. The rooms are small but that is to be expected in Paris. Continental breakfast is available for 16 euros/person however there are many cheaper and better options available at nearby restaurants which is why we did not eat at the hotel. On the last 2 days it was unseasonably warm with the temperatures in the 70s. As it was October the hotel had turned off the AC and only heat was available in the rooms. We were on the 5th floor in the corner facing the garden so even with the windows open the ventilation was extremely poor. Additionally leaving the windows open let in mosquitoes from the garden as there was no screen. Basically it was extremely warm and stuffy in the room making it very difficult to stay in there and sleep. When we let the front desk know they brushed us off and said nothing could be done. They did not even have a fan for us to borrow. The 2nd night it was even hotter in the room and this time all they could offer was ice. So the front desk guy gets a plastic bag, puts some ice in it, and gives it to us to take back with us. Safe to say it did not help at all. We ended up cooling down by wrapping ourselves in cold towels. While the location is great we would not stay here a second time because of the lack of service. They could have and should have done more.
